Braxton hicks

Been in today as a standard thing I have to go every Friday for monitoring after a high BP reading months ago. Anyway, I’m normally in and out but today I was there hours on end. I had back pain since yesterday which I posted about and today the monitor was picking up lots of tightenings and the pain was getting worse. They used a speculum to check and said my cervix isn’t dilated but the tightenings are regular and the babies heart rate wasn’t really good. The doctor advised she would keep me in for monitoring and admit me. I was then monitored again and passed and the midwife said as baby had calmed I could go but keep an eye on things as labour hadn’t started now it still could at any moment. Baby is so so so active today it’s getting painful and I’m concerned the baby isn’t happy and I’m scared. I thought Braxton hicks only lasted a short time. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Yep! I've experienced non stop braxron hicks for the last week. They also monitored me and were concerned for pre-term labour as contractions were strong on monitor (no signs of preterm labour) I think it's just our body prepping! Quite common for 3rd trimester I believe. Please do speak to your midwife for any concerns re baby, and make sure to keep an eye on their movements/ make sure they regular movements and counts etc xx

@Marnie thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone ha! I’m more concerned that the baby won’t settle rather than less movements. It was doing this at the hospital in the initial examination. I’ll have to see if it settles down a bit tonight 🤞 xx

Yes definitely call if unsure, they won't mind and will be happy to reassure you. Always go with your gut xx

@Marnie I will do thanks. Quick question…. Do your braxton hicks wear off? Like this has been none stop for 24 hours and I’m just really hoping they will stop eventually and let me have a breath 😂 xx

Hahaha they do eventually... but yesterday I had them all day, and building in intensity and some were really painful, could of sworn its the start of labour, but then went to sleep and nothing... then back again this afternoon 🫠🤷🏽‍♀️ very tiring! Lol I guess it's whether they get more painful and closer together, mine are always irregular timing wise x

@Marnie awww thank you for your advice!! I’ll see how I get on 😂 Good luck xx
