Nipple shield weaning

My LO is 13 weeks and I’ve still not managed to wean him off the nipple shield. Can’t believe I managed to persevere this long with it but not sure how much longer I have it in me.

I'd recommend reaching out to a private consultant. I had to pay £100 but I figured formula would be more expensive in the long run because I couldn't BF without the shields or a pillow and she resolved my issues in one session. Maybe post asking for signposting on a local fb page? Or use a latch assist to bring your nipple out?

I also went to get help at 10 weeks for this I was convinced he wound not/ could not latch without them. I tried 3 methods advised by a v kind La Leche League advisor and within 1 week he was off them now he rejects them. It’s so much fuss carrying shields everywhere I can finally leave the house without stress and just a couple nappies. If u can afford help by all means pay but Google LLL (La leche) they are world wide and free mom to mom experienced BF people peer support. If u r Uk based there is also the national breastfeeding helpline x

I’ve used an IBCLC when he was 5 weeks already and paid £150 but it didn’t work out for us. She didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know. How it takes time to wean shield etc

I second getting support, I went to my local breastfeeding support group who referred me into the NHS infant feeding team

Thanks @Hollie I’ve been there too already. And numerous breastfeeding support groups 🥲

This is what I was told to do. Called the “flipple” the video was shared with me and I watched it every feed for a while haha. It took some perseverance but after the first consultation I didn’t use the shields again

I've just managed to get off mine at 15/16 weeks, I'm sure once he's ready he'll come off

I haven’t had to deal with this in the same way, but have you tried doing middle of night or sleepy feeds without the shield? Even dream feeds? I’ve found in getting breastfeeding going again after mainly using bottles that baby latches much better and more calmly when he’s been sleeping.
