Formula to take to hospital if breastfeeding doesn’t work?

I am planning to try breastfeeding but due to having breast uplift surgery last year I won’t know if I am able until my milk comes in. What formula are people taking to hospital in case breastfeeding doesn’t work?

i’m taking the kendamil pre-made bottles , i think they are called ready to feed

With my first I asked the midwife what to take and she told me not to worry. She said if I couldn't breastfeed they would have formula to help until we could get some.

This is such a good question, I have been wondering the same. Can they give donor breast milk as don’t want baby on formula unless i absolutely can’t provide breast milk? Or is that not a thing?

Last time my milk took ages to come in so I took some of the Aptamil ready made bottles with sterilised teats. This time I’ve gone for Cow and Gate ready made bottles with the teats as a lot more family and friends said they found that brand better than the others x

Kendamil starter kit

I'm also planning to breasgfeed but taking Aptamil or kendamil ready to feed starter kit along in case

I asked this question to my midwife, she said no need to as the hospital will provide some if I am unable to breastfeed

I also asked my midwife this yesterday and she said that if you’re planning to breastfeed but having issues, then hospital will be able to provide, so she said don’t bother bringing any. Not sure if it depends on certain cities / hospitals (I’m Leicester based)

Hospital will provide formula if you are unable to breastfeed, but if you’re feeling particular about WHICH milk you’d prefer baby to have if being given formula, you may want to take your own x

We struggled with latching on our first night in and they just offered formula if I wanted to try it. We were at Barnsley and she even asked me if I had a preference of which formula. I was clueless so I didn’t and he got a bottle to fill him up whilst I figured it out

They have it in the hospital. They provided it for us whenever we needed it. X

If you want to choose a specific formula then that's fine just choose whichever you can get locally to you easily and is within budget. But you don't have to take any as the hospital will provide if it doesn't go to plan

I opted for the Kendamil starter kit too. I couldn't breastfeed initially with my first due to 100% tongue tie, so I used the formula in the hospital and pumped at home until we got the tongue tie cut x

@Courtney I had some donor milk for my first as he was slow to latch. I think it depends on your hospital, so it might be worth asking your midwife so you know what to expect ☺️
