Polyhydramninos

Has anyone been diagnosed with polyhydramnios? Had a scan yesterday at 37+5 and baby’s fluid is 8.1 normal range is between 2-8 which is bloody typical! I’ve had 2 previous natural births but induced. Has anyone been told they need an induction with the condition? I’ve got a consultation appointment on Wednesday so will find out more then anyhow.

I had this in my last pregnancy late on too (not sure of the numbers, not sure they ever told me) along with slightly increased BP, reduced movements (because of fluid couldn't feel her) and her AC was measuring big. They wanted to induce me too, but I had a successful sweep instead and had her at 39 weeks. I'm having extra growth scans this time because of it - fluid levels were normal at 32 weeks, will find out at 36 weeks I guess 😕

The only thing I would say it affected was that my labour was quite long as the amount of fluid I had was cushioning her head so I don't think her head was putting pressure on my cervix as much as it should have. But I felt so much pressure in my pelvis with my contractions. My waters were bulging through my cervix an they thought she was going to be born in the sac. However, they went at 10cm (everywhere!) and the pressure in my pelvis eased so much. I do wonder if I should have let them break my waters. It's definitely something you should discuss with them. I don't feel like they informed me about it v much

I have severe polyhydramnios and have since 27+6. My fluid level is 12.8 and I’m having an induction in 1 week today at 38 weeks. I found out yesterday at my consultant appointment, my baby girl is on the bigger side and my fluid just keeps increasing x

Thank you so much ladies x

I was diagnosed yesterday at 38 weeks. I've now got a c section booked at 39 weeks but I'm trying to shake him out before hand 😆

Not much help at all but I had suspected polyhydraminos on my last and I can honestly say the sheer amount of fluid that comes out is staggering! The midwives were making literal buckets out of the puppy pad things to catch and dispose of it 😂 and when I had a contraction it pushed out another tidal wave of fluid which went on for HOURS 😂

@Charley is this your first baby? And did they give you the option to have an induction? X

@Charlotte mine went all in one go at 10cm and covered the room and my midwife 😅

@Emily first baby, they wanted to induce but I've said no to that, not under any circumstances do I want a hormonal induction. Having a sweep on Tuesday though

i was diagnosed at 32 weeks and my levels were 33. went back two weeks later and levels were 28. went again 37 weeks and they’d returned to normal. currently going through induction due to GD and baby being massive z

I was diagnosed at 32 weeks, fluid was at 10 and reduced to 9 at my 36 week scan , they wanna induce as I also have group strep b so they can pop me on antibiotics once waters are broken, however I’ve asked to have a few sweep and stretches to see if I can labour naturally, I think they do offer induction but it’s normally at 39 weeks if there’s no other factors and your poly is mild

@Kate were you diagnosed with GD early on or did you have to take another test? My baby stomach is measuring big but they said they don’t need to do another GD test as I was over 35 weeks :( currently estimating weighing 7lb 3 at 37 weeks

@Dee your situation sounds similar to my first. They suspected GD due to polyhydramnios and a large AC, but as I was already 39 weeks, they didn't bother testing and just wanted to induce instead

@Katie yeah this is my first too so I’m a bit apprehensive to be induced , how was your experience? They’ve now found protein in my urine so I think they’re even More adamant to induce however I’m scared that intervention upon intervention may lead to CS and being plus size recovery will be difficult 😞

8.1 is very low - I had 8.2 at my scan at 33 weeks but just had a rescan at 36 weeks (having frequent scans for other reasons) and was back below the “normal”. I was told it can be on the lower side of high for many reasons and dip back down so it may be that it comes back down. I was told 8.2 wouldn’t cause them any concern unless it went quite a bit higher - over 10 or so.

@Dee I had a successful sweep instead, so didn't need the induction. It's definitely worth a go 🤞🏻
