Shortness of breath

Anyone been treated for a possible blood clot when pregnant? I’m 17 weeks and got a high test result for a possible clot, as you can imagine I’ve been quite stressed hearing this. The a&e staff not sure on what scans I can have safely in pregnancy so back to see a consultant today. I’m young, fit and healthy so I’m not sure how I’ve come about a clot!

Are you asthmatic my asthma is very bad since being pregnant! They said some can get asthma or get a lot worse or even better, maybe see if they can get you a pump sorted in the meanwhile, I was fit healthy but out of nowhere I couldn’t even walk up the stairs without full on gasping for air x

@Deonie no asthma , never had it x

@Ami maybe worth getting them to see if you have it, remember everything in our bodies are working double to keep going for baby. I’ve had asthma since birth but it instantly got worse after pregnancy x

Blood clots are more common in pregnancy because your blood volume is much higher. I’ve had a blood clot in the past and have to take high dose blood thinners injections throughout my pregnancy instead of my usual tablets. Usually for a blood clot in the lungs they would do a CT scan but that’s not safe when you’re pregnant. If you do have a blood clot then you will also be on the high dose blood thinners which prevent the clot getting bigger. They’re really effective medicines and will keep you safe! Sorry you’re having to go something stressful during your pregnancy ❤️

Also the blood thinner injections don’t cross the placenta so totally safe for baby!

I was recently in a&e with suspected PE because of shortness of breath and bringing up blood and had to have a low dose CT on just the chest to rule this out. They covered my stomach with these mats for extra protection. They’ll talk to you about the risks of the different CT scans if they offer you one to rule out a blood clot. Hope you are ok. X

I have shortness of breath and don’t have asthma but when I was pregnant with my son the doctors told me I had asthma had to go on inhalers and it went away after birth… the same thing happened this time back on inhalers because my breathing is that bad…

@Bethany this is really reassuring, they have said they don’t want to do the Ct scan so will see! Thankyou x

@Tyler Thankyou ❤️

@Natalya good to know Thankyou!
