Breastfeeding - falling asleep & cluster feeding

I’m trying to book an appointment for breastfeeding support but curious if anyone can advise from their experience - 1. I know babies can cluster feed at other stages but will it slow down when my milk comes in? 2. Baby keeps falling asleep with my nipple in his mouth while feeding and just holds it and won’t let go. Am I supposed to just let him hold it or get him to release? Feel like a human dummy right now.

Cluster feeding lasts a few days tops. If baby is falling asleep and they're happy and fed, unlatch by breaking the seal with a clean finger in the side of the mouth.

It definitely gets easier. The first few days when your milk comes in can be so tough and they tend to sleep all day and feed all night. Try and sleep when they sleep so you get some rest. The next growth spurts won’t be as bad or necessarily at night :)

If they fall asleep at the breast, you can lift their lip out to break the seal around your nipple and then they easily come off. I do this once she’s asleep and happy. She’s really easy to put in the bassinet once she’s in that deep boob sleep

Cluster feeding lasted until day 4 for us and then feeds became a lot longer and spread further apart. I had the same questions about falling asleep and our community midwives have all advised to first tickle feet/ blow on face to stimulate swallowing again, second switch breasts because it may wake them up for more. After that if they’re content and sleepy then unlatch. Our baby tends to unlatch himself and not go back on after doing those steps

Our little man is a week old and still cluster feeding, always falls asleep on the boob but it makes it nice and easy to put him in his Moses basket to sleep! If he’s still got a hold, use the finger in the mouth trick to break the seal and get him to release, then if he stirs leave your finger in his mouth for him too suckle on, I do this and 99% of the time he dozes back off and eventually lets go of my finger
