Any pregnant runners?

Just looking to see if anyone is experiencing the same. I’m continuing to run during this pregnancy and generally feeling good during my runs however sometimes I’m experiencing some mild cramping in my uterus through parts of the run. It doesn’t happen the whole way through and eases up straight away once the run is finished but just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same during running or any other types of exercise? Hard to tell if it’s my uterus or just the fact that my intestines etc are more squashed than usual!

I would speak with midwife - cramping is not really a good sign and may be that you are overdoing it and ligaments are stretching too much

I’m still running too and did in my last pregnancy. I don’t get period like cramps but can get a bit of soreness in my belly and I have had the odd mild cramp but not recently. Sometimes round ligament pain or just the pressure of needing to pee or may just be as you say the other organs squished. I guess with the uterus being a muscle it makes sense that it would react a bit to exercise. Always worth speaking to the midwife but generally if you feel ok in yourself and not out of breath and your body is used to the exercise it should be ok. But sometimes we do need to adjust. I stopped around 30 weeks last time due to pelvic pain after running and switched to more swimming.

Not a runner but I do crossfit and have had this the whole way through my pregnancy only when exercising! My midwife wasn’t concerned by it and just said it was my uterus stretching, not sure why it chooses then 😅

Thank you very much everyone! I think I can probably compare it to that feeling where your uterus sometimes goes hard for a few mins then soft again! May check in with midwife just for reassurance

I don’t run, but I have been doing prenatal workouts on a fitness platform I use normally. The prenatal programme has included HIIT workouts, Pilates/yoga/barre, weights and resistance, dance and combat style cardio workouts as well. All of the workouts are pregnancy safe and tailored to the trimester you’re in (different workouts for all 3 trimesters) and I have been experiencing sort of cramping/stitching in my lower uterus when doing the workouts. I have scans every 2 weeks as I’m obstetrician led due to being underweight (kidney disease and Crohn’s disease) and the baby is doing just fine despite the nagging feeling I get at times. I think mild cramping is actually very normal in pregnancy. My obstetrician always tells me that the only real concerns are when a person is presenting with severe cramping and or bleeding. Xx

Thank you for sharing @Megan

I have the same thing, I normally just stop for a 30 seconds or so and it goes and then start again!
