Reduced feedings

My baby girl is 10 weeks old and I'm noticing that she falls asleep right after taking milk from one breast. In the past she used to feed from both. What does this mean? Does it mean she is needing lesser? Should I wake her up to take from both??

If she’s putting on weight and is having wet and dirty nappies then it may just mean that she’s feeding more efficiently and getting what she needs in that one feed. My 10 week old feeds from one side at a time from anywhere from 5-20 minutes ☺️

@Terri yes weight and nappies all good. These last few nights I've been side feeding her and usually I will feed from both breasts but she seemed really knocked out just from the one boob. And I was trying hard to wake her up to take the second boob but wondering if I shouldn't even done that.

She’s probably getting enough from that one side then ☺️ it’s then just remembering which side you fed from last time 🙃 having said that I fed my boy for almost two years from one side!

@Terri yes absolutely! I literally just reminded myself which boob she feeds from. I am feeling slightly engorgement too.. is this expected to happen when babies are feeding more efficiently as they get older??

I personally find that yes although I’m sure other might jump in if I’m wrong. Especially overnight say she feeds from left at 21:00 then right at 00:00 then left at 04:00 (on an exceptionally good night 🤣) then by that 04:00am feed I’m definitely starting to feel slightly engorged by that time. I think as they start to do longer stretches then you do find your supply will regulate to support that and you’ll feel less engorged but the supply should still be fine. Breastfeeding is a minefield isn’t it because you can’t see what you’re giving. Trust your body because it sounds like you’re doing it all right 😍

@Terri yes that makes alot of sense! Because usually she'd take from both breasts through the night every 3 to 4 hours and now if thr 2nd or 3rd feed after bedtime she's only taking one boob then the other boob may have oversupply. Thanks Terri - I just wanna say you've been really helpful on this platform with your insights and just overall kind vibes !!

Oh bless you do not thank me. I’ve been breastfeeding solidly for two years so I’m always happy to share my experience ☺️

Omg mine has started doing this too (he is 11 weeks today!) reassured it’s the same for someone else! I do try to wake him up to take the second side for the bedtime feed though to make sure he’s really full so will hopefully sleep longer!
