Ofsted bad rating at nursery

What would you do if your nursery gets an ofsted review which comes back really bad? So we’ve not seen the report yet, but I had an email from the nursery last night going to all parents telling us to ‘prepare for the worst outcome so we aren’t disappointed’ I have 2 children at this nursery and I was getting worried recently about some things. My kids are 2 and under. Anyway, ofsted called the nursery and said they would be in the following day, and the main manager never showed up for it and never came back - so they went ahead with the ofsted review with the assistant manager that was 3 weeks ago. All we know is they were told the safe guarding of children is great, and that some of the staff are very supportive to the children, but everything else was bad/terrible. What would you do in this situation? I feel like things have improved so much since the main manager left. It seems a happier place and the overall cleanliness of the place is better. Would you allow your children to go to a badly rated nursery? The nursery did say they’ve fallen way below standards and that busy bees (the head office) have given them a warning too as they’ve fallen way below standards advertised by them. I will say I feel like my children are safe. The eldest that can talk does tell me she likes it there. I think there have a few members of staff that stand out as being brilliant to me, but some are questionable. I just don’t know what to do now. What happens after a poor ofsted report? From my understanding of the email I think they may be classed as ‘inadequate’ but they have to wait for the official report to be uploaded before telling parents the details

My daughter’s preschool failed their ofsted. Think a lot of it was to do with the old manager. The big issue was that the LA could take away funding and shut the place. They obviously worked hard and overturned their rating which I was pleased with as she had made friends and it was a lovely little preschool where the staff really did care for the kids.

The nursery we used to send my eldest to failed their OFSTED, and they were given a few months to change and at the next inspection they passed with good. I couldn’t fault the care my eldest received, he was always so happy and learnt so much (he’s now at school). It was more to do with the ‘learning’ aspect and covid had a massive impact on the staff as they couldn’t retain staff so they were using other staff members from other nurseries (same franchise). If I’m honest, I think a lot of nurseries are struggling. They’re trying to hire, but no one wants to work in childcare as it’s shit pay/benefits are very minimal. I’d try not to worry until the report is published x

I’d remove my child personally

If you’re happy your children are safe, if it was me, I’d speak to the nursery and see what they are doing/going to do to address and turn around the problem areas that have been flagged in the Ofsted report. Based on that, I’d feel better equipped to make a decision. Safeguarding failure would be removal if it was me but as you’ve said that’s good, I’d find out more about what Ofsted have identified and give them a chance to make improvements.

I would wait for the report because ofsted look at everything. This includes paperwork. And the safeguarding element may even be down to recording of procedures, or how things are documented. It may not mean children are unsafe, but could be that if things are not being organised or filed or documented correctly, it could mean a child is at risk that way, say if you couldn't locate a file and know everything you need to know about that child within a couple of minutes. The manager disappearing says alot

Thank you all for the comments The old manager used to have stacks of files on and around her desk, like I’m talking probably enough to fill 2 or 3 filing cabinets. I went into the office and noticed those files have gone now, so I wonder if maybe that could be what the issue was I’ve noticed they’ve made a lot of changes since she left, including having a step outside the entrance fixed, some things put on the wall outside (I think pest control related but could be wrong) and when I went in to collect the children the entire nursery was being deep cleaned and decluttered with a large amount of black bags. I did make a comment about the bags (just like woah that’s a lot of rubbish) and they said a skip would be arriving once the children have left site so it will be gone soon

I was also told that one day the children got upset because they planned to be in the garden for a few hours but gardening people turned up so the children stayed inside all day, and these gardeners were there all day long fixing things (not sure what) So I have seen a lot of differences which is a positive thing. They’ve also got a new manager that has transferred from another nursery in the area, and she seems to be on top of everything I’ll pop into the office in the morning and have a chat with them and see if those are the sort of issues. I don’t mind as long as my children are safe and being looked after, it’s just so scary to read the words ‘expect the worst’ 😫 x

The preschool my daughter is at has always been outstanding. Personally I’d struggle to trust them anymore if they failed and I would remove her. X
