Growth scan

Just had my growth scan as I dropped from over 90th to 50th centile with belly measurement. Baby is all good measuring bigger than average but not sure what centile. My only worry is that baby is actually measuring bigger on the scan than my belly in terms of centile so I’m just a bit worried that if I keep measuring smaller belly wise will my midwife assume he’s smaller even tho he’s not on a scan? My first baby was 9lb12oz so I am Expecting another big baby, just don’t want it to be missed if I measure ‘average’.

Midwife will look at growth scan results over bump measurements as the latter is known to be wildly inaccurate. Everybody holds baby bumps differently. They only really measure belly to identify any potential issues and send for a growth scan if they think you could be measuring big or small.

Looks like she’s on 50th centile. Growth scans are very inaccurate though. My boy was estimated 8lbs on growth scan at 37 weeks. He came at 40 weeks weighing 6lb7 x

@Letitia I would usually take this into account however my first born was 98th centile at birth and it was never picked up on 🤣

@Amy I am on a growth scan track and as soon as I started having growth scans my midwife stopped measuring my belly at all. So they definitely take the scans into account more!

@Abi my midwife has never measured my belly also because I have always had growth scans. So @Amy it is possible she may stop measuring your belly and they will swap to scans x

Bump measurements are so innacurate that most practices don't bother. I wasn't with either of mine. I would also look at your chart as your percentile is worked out on previous children's average growth (mine was anyway) my average chart was worked out from my first child.

My mum had me and I was 5ibs15oz and I was on the 90th centile but I was tiny but my mum had loads of water and a 67cm bump (she was huge 😂) when she had my brother he was 6ibs7oz and she was tiny with him but not sure what centile he was at and when she had my sister she was 5ibs15oz and she was massive with her as well. I never understood how the centiles work but my daughter was 5ibs12oz and she was early and I had a 36cm bump at 36 weeks. She’s now 2.5 years old and she’s very long legged and short body. Xx

My little one was measuring big the whole way through always 2/3 weeks ahead, I had 4 weekly scans due to another problem, but everyone told me the scans were not accurate but he was born at 39 weeks and weighed 10lb 2oz lol so in my case they were accurate… and my belly wasn’t massively large on measurements wise
