I’m panicking

I have inverted nipples and my colostrum just isn’t coming no matter how hard I try. I feel like a failure. Any tips 😢

Please don’t be hard on yourself I never made milk with my first and they said it was because I was induced, same with my second, and after talking to midwife she explained it’s the same hormone that induces labour that brings in your milk and some women aren’t able to make it, as long as baby is fed that’s all that matters!

Don’t stress! You are not a failure. I never harvested any colostrum, didn’t take any to the hospital either. Within an hour of my Caesarian I was feeding my baby. You will get help from the midwives and you can ask if you need extra help to see a lactation specialist. The hormones needed to trigger milk supply don’t actually turn on until the placenta is detached so don’t worry. Some mums may make some prior to birth, some won’t. I’m pregnant with baby 2 now and still nothing from me again.

Thank use so much xxx

I have inverted nipples and my colostrum only came a couple hours after birth with the help of a midwife!

But I must also be honest and say that my baby didn't latch on because of my inverted nipples. But of course all babies are different! Just be prepared for all sorts of scenarios x

I couldn't harvest any colostrum at all pre birth. Midwives helped as my baby can't latch himself post birth and I was able to feed him. Got lots of support in hospital and support outside of hospital with breastfeeding from health visitor and infant feeding teams. I was told harvesting isn't a sign you will have milk come in and visa versa. I will say breastfeeding when baby won't latch is absolutely a challenge and to ask for support as often as needed if that is the route you want to go down. We are now in a rhythm 4 weeks in, I've got an ample supply but using nipple shields due to difficulties latching still and still getting support with feeding.
