If u drink alcohol, when after giving birth did u have ur first drink again?

I’m fascinated by the idea of having sushi and some wine at the hospital after giving birth to my baby in 3.5 months because that’s what I hear some women doing. But I don’t get how this happens, if they breastfeed… is there new research that’s says u can do this that im not privy to? Is it because the baby doesn’t really drink that much milk the first few days anyway? What’s the nuance?

You can definitely drink while breastfeeding. I’m not sure the exact logistics of drinking in the hospital because I’ve never done it. In Germany they give you a beer after birth to help your milk come in! But generally if you would be safe to drive, you are also safe to feed your baby.

From what I read the percent of alcohol that gets into your bloodstream is so little it’s safe unless you’re like black out drunk since .08 is the driving limit and only a small fraction of that actually goes into your breastmilk which is also filtered and within a couple hours it will also filter out of your breastmilk same way it doesn’t your blood if you were black out

A little bit isn’t going to hurt anything. I know there are tests you can get at like Walmart to make sure there’s no lingering alcohol in your milk. I’ve never done it but I know some women who use them.

it all depends on how much you drink. one or two drinks isn’t going to hurt your baby at all. google it and you can get more specifics, like how long to wait after feeding and stuff like that

I didn’t feel like drinking straight after having baby because I was so focussed on baby and recovery. When my boy was 4 weeks old I had some wine at Christmas 😊 Yes research has shown some alcohol while breastfeeding is fine.

I was told by my lactation nurse that if I felt fine, milk was fine and if I felt buzzed/drunk, milk would be too but I usually just pumped right before I had a drink

Yeah drinking while breastfeeding is fine providing you're not getting black out drunk. If you can hold the baby you can feed the baby. I've heard the analogy it's like throwing one shot of vodka into a swimming pool so little of it actually filters through. I'm planning on a glass as soon as I feel like it! Probably won't take any in though. Although tempted 😂

I can't imagine having a drink in the hospital, it took me at least a month to feel like drinking again, tge newborn stage was so disorienting 😅
