Tonsillectomy

My little boy is 2 and is going to the RVI at Newcastle on Saturday for a tonsillectomy and Adenoids removed. Just putting a chat on here to see if anyone else has had a child so young going through this procedure.. I’m so scared… but probably doesn’t help due to him having a seizure in February due to his tonsils swelling up that much.. please help a gal out 😭

This comment has made me smile thanks so much! I’m just petrified his dad will have to go with him to get put to sleep because with dealing with PTSD from the seizure I just can’t do it :(

I had my adenoids removed at 12 and it was all rather straightforward and very quick (or so I was told). Recovery was relatively quick and I don't remember being in much pain. I remember having a bit of a nosebleed right after I woke up from the GA. Afterwards it was a bit like having a very sore throat and eating was difficult for a couple of days but that was it. Also, not sure how things are done these days, but they gave me some sort of medicine to make me completely loopy before they even wheeled me into the OR so I don't even remember being put under. If it needs to be done, it's best if it's done early - he won't remember a thing and he'll recover quickly xx

Is his tonsils as well as adenoids x

@Becky thanks so much for your kind words! It’s meant the world!

My niece recently had hers out just before she was 4… so a little bit older but my sister was surprised at how well she did after. They were out the same day, just gave regular pain relief. I think she struggled with sleeping for 2 weeks or so (due to pain)… but otherwise she was a real trooper! Good luck! X
