Feeling discouraged

My baby is 8 days old and I’ve been trying to hand pump until my electric pump comes in. Between trying to have time to sleep, care for her, care for my home, and care for myself… I feel like it’s impossible to find 45 minutes every 2.5 hours to make a difference. I’m producing drops at this point. I was pumping and crying and my husband got irritated. I just feel so discouraged that I can’t help but be a little negative. Is it possible to come back from this? Can I start producing more again?

Oh my darling, you’re only eight days postpartum. Are you latching baby at all or are you just pumping? When you get your electric pump, you may find a difference as it will have better suction and better nipple stimulation rather than hand expressing. You should really only pump for 30 minutes because anything over that can damage breast tissue. If you want to chat feel free to message. X

I'm pretty sure it takes a goooood couple of months for breast milk to regulate - I couldn't pump anything until about 2-3 months and even then it was a little amount. Please don't be discouraged! Give it time, you can definitely produce more, eat protein and keep your water intake up very high, oh and tell your hubby to be a little considerate!! Xx

Don’t worry it’s day 8… Call LLL they will talk to you about what to do as a fellow mother who has also been through this https://laleche.org.uk https://lllusa.org If you are in the Uk you can also call the national BF helpline 24/7 even at 3am 03001000212 Xxx

Go to the store and get a Manuel pump until your electric comes in. I would also suggest trying to latch baby as much as you can

You can always hand pump one breast while baby feeds on the other. Honestly you’re not even one month in so your milk isn’t regulated. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll only get drops at a time for a while longer. Then the flood gates will open and then it’ll slow down again. It’s a whole roller coaster 🥴
