Surgical management of a miscarriage

I just wanted to tell my experience of the surgical management for a miscarriage for anyone who might be considering or be worried I have had medical management previously… I can honestly say that the surgical management was the best decision I made, I’ve had minimal pain and so far not too much bleeding and honestly the care and amazing treatment I have gotten from start to finish has been amazing, I have found this less traumatic than than the medical management and if god forbid I’m ever in this situation again I would definitely choose surgical, if anyone has questions I don’t mind answering

I have literally just joined this group after finding no heartbeat at my 12 wk dating scan today. This is invaluable advice. Do you mind me asking you what gestation you were both times? I was given the options today and booked myself in for medical management next week as I didn't like the thought of surgical intervention. Did you go under a general or have gas and air? X

@Katie my first I was 8 weeks but measuring about 6 and my second was 9 weeks measuring 6. I opted for the medical management first time because quite honestly the nurses petrified me with the surgical option they made it sound horrendous. My experience of the medical management in all honesty I found it traumatic, they tell you bad period pains/labour pains I’ve never been in labour but I was not prepared for the pain and contractions and how hard I would find passing it either I also had extremely bad diarrhoea as a side affects of the tablets too, I was still testing positive 3 weeks later and found out that the tablets hadn’t fully worked and had to take another round of tablets which didn’t work at all and then the remaining tissue came away with my next period so I felt like it was all dragged out and I couldn’t move forward. I’ve had a week knowing that unfortunately my second baby passed and I’ve asked lots of people about their experience with the surgical management

They have only had positive things so I decided to go ahead with the surgery, from start to finish I had nothing but amazing care and was treated so lovely, I was a little apprehensive going in but was constantly put at ease. The surgery was really quick and uncomplicated, I’ve had hardley any pain whatsoever so far and not too much bleeding either. I opted to go to sleep as I didn’t want to be aware of what was happening but for me personally i definitely found this to be less traumatic. Its your own choice and definitely do whatever is right for you and ask lots of people of their experience but for me I have found it much easier to move forward, I hope this helps and if you want to chat my inbox is open x

Thank you so much for this. I'm so sorry for your losses. Your advice is super helpful to me so I hope you have some comfort in knowing you've supported another mama. I'm going to ring the hospital tomorrow and rediscuss my options with them 🩷

I’m glad I can help someone ❤️ it’s a horrible thing for anyone to have to go through, my inbox is always open ❤️ xx

@Katie sorry for your sad news. Just wanted to say, what happened to Jenni is really similar to me. 2 rounds of medical that was quite traumatic but actually didn't work. I then had the surgery and it was so much easier and less ambigious. Would never do medical again. Was under general for the surgery and felt fine afterwards

@Robyn thank you for sharing 💓
