Advice please 🙏🏼

Hi I’ve just had my second little one and I’m wanting to breast feed this time. She was born yesterday. She’s got a bit of a tongue tie which we have been referred for but I feel as if she’s not satisfied with the colostrum I’m producing . My community midwife came out to me and said that my colostrum would be enough for her. I’ve had about an hours feeding session each time I’ve breast fed and she’s just not happy or settled after. So through the night last night I was topping her up with formula. She would then be satisfied and settled and then when ready go back to sleep. I’m basically asking if it’s okay for me to top her up with formula or what I need to do till my milk comes in?…This is all new for me as I straight bottle fed last time. Thanks in advance

I was in the same situation, I introduced bottles and then her tongue tie was snipped. She wouldn’t latch or come back to my breasts afterwards and much preferred the bottle as the flow was quick and easy from them. It took 9 weeks of hard work to relatch her, it was emotional and draining but we are EBF now. I would say keep offering her the breast and then top up, don’t just give her the bottle straight away but be prepared as after the tongue tie snip, she will need to learn how to use her tongue muscles so might take a bit of time to relatch. Defo possible and most important that baby is fed xx

We had to top up with formula for few days when had jaundice but bottle can confuse them so early so didn't do for long. I recommend going private if tongue tie you will be waiting a long time. Maybe try to hang in there if want to bf. It is very tough at the start but gets easier, I'm 5months pp

Thankyou both for the advice, got my referral appointment for tomorrow for her tongue tie. I’m hoping when my milk comes in it becomes a bit easier, I’m offering more breast today and waiting a bit longer to offer formula and seems to be bigger stretches so we shall see. I’m hoping to express aswell as my partner would like to help feed so I’m hoping the bottle feeding will help with that? Really appreciate the replies Thankyou 💓
