CMPA Confusion

Hi 👋 I am CONVINCED that my baby has CMPA but the doctors keep on saying she doesn’t and don’t recommend me changing the formula as she is settled on this one… not being sick, no reflux etc. however she has yellow mucous poop every time she feeds. She’s not groggy or in any pain although she has a sore bum from pooping every single time she feeds. She’s 10 weeks this Thursday. What can I do to rule out CMPA or any other suggestions on how I can help!?

You can rule out easily. Buy cmpa formula from pharmacy even you can buy it online from online pharmacy coz sometimes some pharmacy will ask prescription. It’s bit pricey as it’s £15 for a small tin.Your baby could have cmpa maybe not severe as she don’t have all the symptoms some babies have few not all. But if she is happy and settled I wouldn’t try to change her formula her poo can be mucusy from reflux if she might have silent reflux. But it’s upto you if you want you can try aptamil pepti 1 formula usually that’s the one they prescribe and use it for at least a minimum of 2-4weeks to see any difference! But BIG WARNING cmpa formulas are very thin your baby will have a terrible reflux and either constipated or diarrhoea and very unsettled as this cmpa milks are extremely hydrolysed and taste bad aswel so your baby might won’t like it.Also for the reflux you will need omeprazole or carobel which prescribed and doctor will might not do it.have you tried changing her formula to

Another cows milk formula ? Might be her tummy don’t like this one and she might be okay with other brand cows milk formula ? Sometimes poo can be stronger more acidic and cause sore bum if have silent reflux or maybe the formula needs changing to another and it might help.instead of trying cmpa formulas as they really takes a toll on baby tummy and if don’t have cmpa they do more harm than help. I have two cmpa babies so I speak from experience.

I’d definitely try a different formula before buying formula specifically for CMPA. Some formulas sit differently in the stomach I found SMA to be okay and then switched to Aptamil and my boy reacted straight away. Now on SMA Althera which is for a mild allergy to CMP. X

If personally try a comfort formula first, then if no success buy a tin of CMPA formula yourself to try it x
