Low lying placenta

Just did my 20weeks scan and I got told my placenta is lying low, and so I got booked for a 36 weeks scan. Online it says by 32 weeks it should be checked again. So I have two concerns here.. for those who went through this.. 1. Did you have to wait until 36wks for your next scan? 2. Did you end up having vaginal or c-section birth? Because I really don’t want c-section.. 3. If there’s any other issue you had or like to share

I had this, it had moved by 36 weeks. Which is internal by the way as the never told me. Because it moved I had a vaginal birth with no issues. It’s very common and also most of the time moves out of the way

Hey! Yours sounds pretty positive as they are leaving the scan later- I saw lots of stories online where they have moved away! So likelihood yours could move out the way! I have a stage 4 previa told at 20weeks (goes completely across the exit), told to be on pelvic rest- no sex- and I’m having another scan at 28 weeks but I think it’s just a Curtesy for me- they plan to c section at 37weeks for me. I was very upset with being told about a c section, but I’ve slowly got my head around it. There are some ways to make it better like music, gentle c section procedures etc xx

@Claudia aw.. and this is your first? Oh if you don’t mind me asking, did you have any bleeding due to how close it is.. I’ve been told that that could happen.. Wish you all the best for your c-section.

@Imane Yes this is my first! Not exactly what I thought was going to happen but hey! The main priority is that we are both safe. I am currently 24 weeks and have had no bleeding so far! Xx

They discovered that I had a low lying placenta at my anatomy scan too. I had my next scan at 28 weeks to see if it had moved, and it had! I was able to deliver vaginally :)

9 out of 10 cases move up by 32 weeks and mine had by then. I wouldn't worry. They were able to tell me at my private 4D scan at 28 weeks that it had moved up so I was reassured going into the follow up NHS scan xx

@Aaryn oh that’s great! Hopefully mine moves too.. oh you’re lucky you got at 28wks, I have to wait until 36.. I see it’s a boy, they say boys are more likely to cause this and didn’t know if it’s true.. but I checked your profile and you had boys.. this is a boy for me too.. crazy, it must be true..

@Hayley aw thanks for the reassurance..

I had low lying placenta and was rebooked for growth scan at 32 weeks, it was still low at 32 so was booked in again at 36 weeks - now placenta has moved and due to have a vaginal birth any day now :)

@Xantia I see.. so even at 32 weeks it could still be low.. that’s good to know. Glad it worked out for you! Well wish you a safe delivery and all the best.

I had marginal placenta previa (small sliver of placenta over the cervix, not completely blocked) that they found at the 20 week anatomy scan and I was rescanned at 25 and 32 weeks and I haven't had any bleeding. It hadn't moved at all for the 25 week scan which was discouraging but it had moved a bit by 32 so now it's just low lying (<1cm from my cervix and not covering). I have another scan next week at 36 where we'll see if it has moved enough or whether it needs to be a c section. Rescanning isn't really going to change your plan of care until 36 weeks though so I honestly would have preferred not being rescanned so much since I kept getting my hopes up. I would recommend that you look into c sections in the mean time though because while it's likely that it will move and it's not my first choice either, you never know what could happen and at least for me, it has helped me not be too upset about the possibility of it

If you are concerned and have Medicaid or any insurance coverage at 32 weeks go to the hospital with “pain” and tell them you have a low lying placenta, they’ll do a scan for you and you won’t have to feel too stressed about it ❤️

I had this and had a scan at 32 weeks and it had moved x

Ask for a scan at 32 weeks as that is when it has most likely moved. Mine was low right until that date then moved to the front. I know the worry. X

@Vanessa thanks for the tips, I’ll definitely do more research on c section.. but the whole needle and knife just scares me. Oh I’m glad to hear that about rescans, I’m just stressing myself if it’s too late by 36weeks, thanks for the assurance.
