Flu Jab

Hi everyone, currently 15 weeks and am due for a flu jab. Dont know if I am overthinking but this is my third pregnancy, the first 2 ending in early miscarriage. Never had a flu jab before and read some things online that it can cause miscarriage. Has anyone else had the flu jab in pregnancy after recurrent miscarriages?

It’s completely up to you if you have the vaccines they offer you so you can just turn it down if you want to :) I won’t be having any of them. Sorry I know I’m not answering your question specifically but just wanted you to know this because they don’t always make it clear in the way they word it and they can be quite coercive.

I had the flu jab in my second pregnancy (first ended in miscarriage last year) and my baby is now 6 weeks old and perfectly healthy. If you’re concerned I’d speak with your midwife. You don’t have to have it if you don’t want but your immune system is compromised when pregnant so if you did catch it you may suffer more than before

My first pregnancy I had a very early miscarriage. My second and third pregnancies I had all the vaccines and they were fine. I’ve not read anything to suggest the flu vaccine can cause miscarriages. The flu can in serious cases cause stillbirth though. It’s your decision ultimately

If there was even the 0.1% chance that it caused miscarriage they wouldn't offer it. Influenza is probably something that you'll probably only get once or twice in a lifetime but during pregnancy it can be extremely serious and can cause extreme complications for the pregnancy. As someone already mentioned, still birth, you could end up so sick they have to deliver early and you both end up on ICU (my mum saw it happen in her hospital during the COVID months) You'll also pass the protection on to your baby which would be life saving if they were to contract it. It's not a heavy cold. It kills people. I get my flu jab every year, even if I pay £20 for it at Boots because 20 quid and a quick jab is better than a fortnight bed bound and hallucinating.

After a quick look into reputable studies and information all of the information I found suggests that the vaccine doesn't cause miscarriages. There was one study done which suggests a maybe kind of but probably not possibility of it but that was in the H1N1 vaccine and the results were too subjective to be certain. All of the vaccines women are offered during pregnancy are safe for mom and baby. They would not give them to you if the risk outweighed the benefit. I had every vaccine offered to me while pregnant. Flu, covid, and the Tdap. Myself and my baby made it through (and I was high risk for a few reasons). He is now thriving and living his best life. Obviously you cannot be forced to get a vaccine, but please do not let misinformation be the reason you don't. Talk to your doctor about maybe waiting till you're a certain amount of weeks etc if you're anxious. Flu season is on the way so just be mindful of that as well! Sending you all the positive thoughts for a healthy fullterm pregnancy 💕

Not specifically answering your question but similar to Kathryn. I didn’t have any of the jabs offered in pregnancy. Didn’t ever have those jabs before pregnancy and didn’t intend to start then, my baby was also born November last year so during “the flu months”. I even had covid while pregnant (due to inconsiderate coworker) and if anything it effected me less than the first time I had it! All this to be said that this was my experience and you must make your own decision of the pros and cons of getting or not getting. Either way I hope you make the best decision for you and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy :)

I’ll be 29 weeks pregnant this week and I just got my flu shot last week. My doctor actually recommended that I do it because I’m going to be traveling and getting the flu while pregnant is no fun. I felt completely fine after getting the shot. Baby and I are doing great.

I had my flu jab last week and me and bump have been okay xx
