Overfeeding??

So my 4 week old who is 9lbs now is very congested and yesterday I ended up taking him to A&E after the advice from 111 because his breathing and him not being able to feed from the bottle. They have advised he has bronchiolitis so to use the drops on his nose before feeding which has helped and he's alot better today. The Dr and the community nurse who came to check on him today both asked how much he was drinking. So he usually takes 3oz every 2 to 2 1/2 hours but sometimes he does drink 4oz no problem. They told me I was overfeeding him and to only give him 2 1/2oz every 3 hours max... 1. I can never get him to go three hours. 2. He would scream the house down if I only gave him that much and 3. They said feed little and often which I get whilst he has a cold but I've offered him the bottle before he would be due and he just refuses it. Please tell me other babies feed the same as this and any tips on getting to that 3 hour mark. Thanks mumas

My girl is 4 weeks and has been having 4oz breast milk, and has 1 4oz gorilla bottle. She is having this every 2.5 - 3hrs, and has done for over a week x

I was advices the same for my baby with bronchiolitis little and often. The only problem is he is breastfed and will eat until he’s done. It’s so silly but I understand why they say not to fill them up as it compresses their lungs. It’s been a long week of an unhappy baby for us :(

It will just be while baby is poorly 1. To reduce pressure on lung 2. To reduce risk of aspiration from vomit with altered suck swallow breathing from the illness Your not overfeeding in general terms for a well baby, little and often is a pain when they are poorly but I would stick to their advice xx

Thanks guys. He does drink less on his night feeds so hopefully that will help.. he is currently fast asleep in his next to me cot and not on me for the first time today which I am taking as a win right now....and I will try again tomorrow giving him smaller amounts. :) xx

It’s so hard when they’re poorly because all they want is mummy and love and they can’t tell us what’s wrong :( I hope you’re little one starts to feel better soon x

Doctor told us the same as our 4 week old is a bit sicky but she is having 3 - 3.5 ounces at a time and today she will have had 28 ounces in a 24 hour period. We have tried giving her a dummy and reducing bottle sizes but she is just hungry
