@Mercedes he will usually eat eggs, banana bread or muffins for breakfast (I would love something to add to homemade bread & muffins). He will always eat yogurt, Mac & cheese, chicken nuggets (ugh), & pizza. I try to add freeze dried veggie powder or make hidden veggie cheese & pizza sauce when I can. I offer fruits & veggies with most meals but he currently doesn’t want anything except the occasional banana. He also takes the Hiya multivitamin everyday & whole milk everyday.
He used to be a great eater but now his 1 year bother eats twice as much as he does 😩 he also gags a lot when eating all the sudden, hoping to get some info at his 3 year wellness check
So it sounds like the main concern is his fruits and veggies. If he's already taking a daily multivitamin, I wouldn't worry too much about specific nutrients. Seems like fiber might be an issue though.
Could you try making your bread with whole wheat flour? Or adding some nuts/seeds to his diet? My daughter absolutely loves sunflower seeds (shells off) and I feel they're small enough they're not too much of a choking hazard. You could also use chia seeds in baking or as a topper to his yogurt (call them sprinkles 😉)
Also, keep in mind it's developmentally normal for all kids to go through a picky phase. Anytime between 1 and 5 years old! Just keep offering fruits/veggies without pressuring and model healthy eating yourself and hopefully he grows out of it soon! Good luck!
Hi! I'm a dietitian. To better understand where his deficiencies might be, what are the foods he WILL eat consistently?
