Growth Scan!

Hi everyone! Have just had my 34-week midwife appointment, and she's referred me to have a growth scan done on baby as my bump is measuring slightly smaller than should be (currently measuring at around 32cm) Just looking for a bit of reassurance / insight into the growth scans as everything so far up to this point has been pretty smooth sailing! Thank you in advance 🫶🏼

Bump measurements are incredibly inaccurate but it’s all they have to go by which is why they do it. The measurements can be impacted by a different midwife’s doing it, position of baby, if you’ve been a toilet etc so not unusual to be sent for scans during pregnancy. During the scan they will measure baby’s head, tummy, femur, fluid around the baby and check the placenta- if baby in a good position they don’t take long but they’re just making sure there’s not a reason the measurements have changed. If all good any measurements you have going forward will be based off your current measurements xx

I’ve been for another growth scan on Sunday at 35 weeks and baby is 5lb everything is perfect, she’s growing how she should be, even the woman doing it said to ignore the tape measures because they’re so wrong xx

I had exactly the same, bump was measuring 31 weeks at 33 weeks pregnant. Had the growth scan yesterday and everything is fine and baby is currently 4lb10oz

I was given a growth work at 31 because I measured 29. It was after a reduced movement visit and hospital thought baby might be small. She was actually slightly above average. Then 4 days later I got measured by my midwife and she measured that I'd apparently grown 5cm in 4 days... 🤔. I'm now 37 and all the 'confusion' has gone and I'm smack on every time.. There is literally nothing to be concerned about until they tell you. The tape measure is very subjective and they do the scan as a better check really from what I can see. You may get a growth scan then another one booked 2 weeks later. Which they booked me in for a consultant afterwards. This worried me again and I literally walked in and the consultant was like "I'm really sorry but I've been through all of your notes and I cannot work out why you're here, you didn't really need this appointment at all". See it as another opportunity to see baby for now!

Exact same thing has happened to me today… 34 weeks pregnant and bump is 32cm. I’m not worried at all. In fact the first measurement she took was 35cm so I know it’s not accurate. Now just looking forward to seeing baby again :) did she say to you when you’d get your scan? X

Bump measurements are inaccurate. With my son I had a growth scan and there was nothing to worry about

@Rachel yes I ended up getting a call from the hospital earlier today and they booked me in for this afternoon! 😆 x

Oh amazing! I’m glad it’s a quick turnaround. Let us know how the scan goes x

Scan was all good in the end! Thank you everyone for your reassuring comments 😊

I had this a couple of weeks ago, at 31 weeks my bump was measuring too small so we went for a scan. Turns out baby is actually a little bigger than average, but totally healthy. This week when I saw the midwife my bump measurement had caught up and was bang on track for 34 weeks. They think it was down to his position and that his head had started to engage. The measurement midwives take is a really rough way of estimating. I completely freaked myself out and didn’t sleep for the whole weekend waiting for the scan 🙈
