I’m not trying to downplay anything but I think you’ll be fine. If you want to take extra precautions (just to feel relief and relax) call your doctor and tell them. I’m sure they will provide instructions on what to do. So, when your doctor’s office opens up, just give them a call and explain what’s has happened. ❤️ But….people do hard core drugs, smoke and drink while pregnant (and this is bad). So I think eating a rooted vegetable is far from your biggest concern. In my unprofessional no medical license or knowledge opinion.

Radishes themselves are not harmful during pregnancy. The concern usually comes from the fact that radishes (like other raw vegetables) can carry bacteria or parasites if they aren't washed properly. These can potentially cause foodborne illnesses, like listeria or toxoplasmosis, which can be harmful during pregnancy. If you washed the radishes thoroughly before eating them, the risk is extremely low. Even if they weren’t washed well, the chance of something happening is still relatively small. Symptoms of foodborne illness might include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, so keep an eye on how you're feeling. If you start to feel unwell or develop any concerning symptoms, it's always a good idea to call your healthcare provider for peace of mind.

I ate a lot of black radish when pregnant, it was one of my biggest cravings. I just washed it very well and didn't eat the skin. I am sure as long as it was washed you'll be fine. I washed everything with white vinegar during pregnancy, not sure if it actually works but I didn't have any problems. Xx

If you washed them before you ate them you’ll most likely be fine but any type of sprouting food shouldn’t be eaten raw when pregnant so maybe call the doctor or a triage centre to check and ease your concerns

I meant to click safe! I ate them not realising

I ate a lot of things not knowing I was pregnant.. youll be fine. The chances of anything happening are so so low anyway.

Like the other commenter, it is simply because radishes are more likely to have harmful bacteria. Wash all of your produce like normal, and there is minimal to worry about.

Aww! You ladies are awesome🤍. Thank you for your comments and comforting words. I eat all my veggies raw… I use white vinegar, sea salt(sometimes baking soda), lemon juice and water and soak them for 15 minutes. Today I craved radishes and was like why not!?…30 seconds later I was like are we safe?…then google then boom..NOT SAFE😓. But now I feel much better after reading your comments. I also called my doc and he said I shouldn't worry. 🤍🩵

@Kimberly she’s most likely fine.. these type of messages will scare her for no great reason.I ate radishes a lot my last pregnancy because my iron was low.

Food scientist here and @Angel said it perfectly. 👍

You will be fine love there are so many things out here they will say not to eat I honestly have eaten what I wanted during all 3 of my pregnancy’s. I’m pregnant with my 3rd now

I ate radishes and didn’t know you weren’t supposed to…. Baby is fine.

You can eat just about anything during pregnancy. Everything in moderation of course and should be limited but all foods are generally safe.

I've never even heard radish might not be safe. I got a hand out with both my pregnancies that listed unsafe foods and I never saw radishes on it! I'm sure you and baby will be just fine

The NHS does not say anything specific about radishes. They are not dangerous to your baby, they are just difficult to clean and things that are difficult to clean are at higher risk of having harmful germs on them. Having said that, as long as you wash all your fruit and veg thoroughly you should be fine.

@Melissa What an interesting career! ❤️ What does your job entail, if I can ask?

I did work in new product development for awhile, although currently I'm working as an accountant / bookkeeper for our home-based software company. 😅 But I do have the relevant education in food science & nutrition.

Let me guess.. listeria? Literally everything fresh produce, meat, cheese ect it can be contaminated with. Your fine just clean your produce

@Kianna that’s a relief. Thank you

@Cheyenne 🤍

I didn’t know about the radish risk either I ate some occasionally whenever I got tacos throughout my pregnancy. I’m 36 wks 5 days baby is fine and developing nicely ☺️

@Valerie don’t be scared!! Just wash your produce and you’re good :) radishes are just more likely than other produce to carry bacteria because of where and how they are grown. There is nothing inherently “poisonous” or whatnot with radishes!! As long as you are washing all of your produce, you can mitigate risk of any food borne illness :)

As Cheyenne said...everything is a risk these days, bacteria-ecoli and listeria. If you followed all the do not eat this while pregnant, there would be hardly anything left for you to eat and then they would be labeling your babe as growth restricted and it will. Cause even more problems. Take a breath, pat yourself on the back for eating healthy and move onto the next meal. You should be ok. https://mylofamily.com/article/is-radish-safe-to-eat-while-pregnant-194613?srsltid=AfmBOorfFBwjqSbseQ5SDWhSf0xh_6VYuUyrKO5LNGeRs0Wgo5KbOiQQ

There is no advice in the UK not to consume radishes during pregnancy. I’ve had loads as I grew them this year! I’m 33 weeks and perfectly fine. You’ll be fine.

I had lots of radish in my last pregnancy in salads - it was all recorded with my dietician due to diabetes and they never cautioned me and I have a healthy boy 🥰 I know that’s just my story, so perhaps reach out to your doctor for reassurance or advice too but please don’t stress too much because that’ll be more risky to the bub than the radishes ❤️ xx

I love radishes and ate them during pregnancy several times . Baby is now 3 months old and healthy, no issues. I didn’t even heard anything bad about radishes.
