Miscarriage - medical management & surgery

Hi all, I unfortunately had a missed miscarriage, only picked up by a routine scan, at around 8 weeks. I opted for the medical management route and had the 2 tablets and passed fetal tissue in hospital. I was discharged but was told some tissue remains that hopefully should pass over the coming weeks. I’ve had lots of clots and bleeding since. It’s been 2 weeks and I had another scan today and there’s still some tissue left, and my bleeding has started to ease over the last 24hours so I thought perhaps it was done, so I’ve been really upset today after the scan. How likely is it that this tissue will pass now? I have the option to wait and see for a while longer or go down the surgery route. So hoping for some other peoples shared experiences. Thank you x

Hi, I’d definitely go down the surgery route if that’s an option asap. I’ve heard it can be damaging to leave tissue in you x

I had the same thing last month and went for a private scan at 8 weeks and there was no baby just a sac and I opted for the 2 tablets too. Thankfully my test was negative in 3 weeks and I had my first period on time again. It’s devastating even if I already have a baby girl x

@Courtney Davis I’m sorry you went through this too. It’s awful isn’t it. I’ve got a little boy too and it’s still so heartbreaking. Did you go back for a rescan or just take the test? How long did you bleed for after the tablets? X

Thank you, it really is awful! The hardest bit was staying strong for my girl and not wanting to cry etc in front of her. She was only 4 months. I just did the test after 3 weeks and it was negative so didn’t need a rescan, hospital said they’d rescan if my test was positive after 3 weeks. I only bled for around 5-6 days but I had a little for a few days when I wiped after that. The bleeding wasn’t really that bad, it was only bad for a day or 2. Had my period on time after that too for 5 days so already had a period too. It’s horrible I feel you x if you wanna chat you can message me also x

Hi, I had 2 miscarriages and both with conservative management which it is about waiting and see. No medication or surgery. I just wanted to say thant since my miscarriage was diagnosed to the day I actually miscarriage I waited for 4 weeks. Nothing bad happened to me, so do not be scared to wait if that feels better for you than surgery. They would do regular scans to keep checking.

I know how you feel my scans kept showing areas left even after what felt like a lot had passed. I took the tablets which I don’t think did anything, I never had cramps or significant bleeds compared to what I had passed prior to them. I continued to bleed but at a medium level then my last scan still showed a small area visible and I was testing positive still, so took tablets again (nothing happened) and then my bleeding eased off to a complete stop, they decided that the area was small enough that it would just pass during my next period and to not try for a baby till that had happened. I finally tested negative today so hoping that means I either passed it all or it’s not enough to trigger the HcG level. I hope it’s over for you soon I was so upset knowing it wasn’t done and anxious at the thought of surgery. In total it took me 6 weeks till I tested negative today xx
