Big baby?

I'm 38+2, had a midwife appointment yesterday, and according to their made-up measurements and chart, my boy is measuring 3.7kg 😳 is that not too big, or its normal? I really, really, really don't think he's that heavy as I am a very small person 😂

That's just over 8lbs. Completely normal. Both my boys were 8.5lbs and I'm sure this little girl will be the same.

It’s notoriously inaccurate anyway. I had a scan at 42 weeks (🥴) and they scared the crap out of me by saying she’d be 9lb 8… two days later she was born at 8lb 8 😅🙄

First baby 8lbs 1oz/3660g at 39+6 second baby 8lbs 1oz/3650g at 38+5 we had growth scans for both kids my first’s estimate was accurate within 3/4oz my second’s estimate would have been ~10oz to small had he made it to his due date. It’s not that big in terms of weight but if the bones are big it feels heavier my daughter (first) was a chunky 8lbs with a big head my son (2nd) was a lanky 8lbs and I thought they had seriously miscalculated as it seemed the heaviness disappeared when he dropped a week and a half before labour.

i wouldn’t worry! at my 36 week scan they baby was gonna be massive and was in the 120% percentile (somehow). i freaked out as i’m also a tiny 😂 they sent me for a scan and everything was fine, he wasn’t in the 120% percentile like the bump measurement said, and was in the 87th - still measuring about 8lb which is still on the bigger side of things, but is in the normal range of baby weights. they confirmed no need to induce or c-section or anything based on that weight and it’s a perfectly okay weight to deliver vaginally 40+6 at the moment so haven’t had baby yet but drop me a message if you want me to update you afterwards how it all goes 😂

They told me on my 39+3 scan baby was measuring at 9lbs 8 so I accepted the induction, baby came out 8lbs 12 😂 I don’t regret the induction as they found out stuff that may have caused me to have a c section or induction when he was even bigger if I continued my pregnancy but I also hate the scaremongering part!

@Danielle I see a lot of scans being wrong. I am hoping that is my case. I go in to have my baby boy in three days. He has been measuring big entire pregnancy. They are estimating 10 lbs now and I will be 37 weeks Thursday. So hopefully they are wrong.

@Stef they can be wrong up to around 15% either way but don’t stress about it too much your body is made for this. I wish you a safe delivery of your baby ❤️

@Danielle thank you. I'm just packing different sizes for him. I'm sure everything with be great.

@Stef best thing to do, I’ve already realised all shops are different with sizings too even when it says it’s the same 😂

It's highly unlikely your body will grow a baby it can't birth unless there is something else going on (e.g. diabetes). Scans often have an innacuracy of up to 15% either side, sometimes more especially late into pregnancy. I've known woman birth 10/11lb babies without so much as a graze, you'll be fine :)
