Insomnia! Do magnesium supplements work?

Writing this at 4.30am after being awake since 2am. I have struggled with sleep this whole pregnancy, if it’s not heartburn or backache it’s insomnia. I am so exhausted and would just like to sleep at least 6 hours a night, atm it can be anything from 3-4 hours or sometimes less. What magnesium supplements are safe in pregnancy and do they work? Which type of magnesium should you take for sleep?

Morning Jen, also following this after being go an hour and awake since about the same time 😅 couldn’t sleep and lovely leg cramp to accompany it! I used to take magnesium before I was pregnant and really do miss it but was never sure how much is safe in pregnancy!

Try neom magnesium body butter It is amazing , knocks me right out

I feel you pain sorry your experiencing this too 😫im exactly the same it's killing me of I had the butter but didn't help me but I wasn't consistent I suppose ,if any one else has any suggestions please share 🙈

Yeah I have a cream I put on my feet and legs and I think it helps me get to sleep but I can’t stay asleep for long enough. Wondering if a supplement would work better. I know this is prepping me for when baby boy arrives but it would be nice to at least get some sleep in before 🤣

It’s a nightmare! I have no issue falling asleep, I’m bloody knackered 😂 but I wake up about 3/4 for a wee and am then wide awake for hours until it’s time to get up 💤

I WhatsApp my midwife and she said up to 300mg of magnesium glycinate is safe to take in pregnancy. I’m going to have a look in Holland and Barrett today. Had another awful night so need to try something

@Jen ah thanks for this I asked my midwife yesterday as I’m struggling with insomnia but she said to ask the pharmacist which I did and they said to ask my midwife 🙃

I bought some low dose magnesium glycinate and I’ve taken 280mg the past two nights with dinner and have slept better. Still only 5.5 hours a night but less wake ups and shorter times awake so hopefully this wasn’t a fluke and it really does work
