How to determine what’s a keepsake and what isn’t?

Can anyone tell me what their thoughts on keeping certain items as keepsakes for when your baby is all grown up and can use them for their babies? How do I know what to keep vs what to toss?

It depends on how much storage you have? How are you planning on storing? Is it a trunk or a box? For me, I consider keepsakes with the following criteria: 1.) Family Heirlooms or if anything is handmade/novelty piece 2.) If the item has true sentimental significance and if seeing it again truly gives you joy 3.) Any FIRSTS (I.e. first outfit, first pair of shoes, first tooth,) 4.) Milestones (first birthday for example)

So it doesn’t need to be expensive to be an heirloom?

No it doesn’t need to be expensive to be an heirloom. Could be like a blanket someone knitted specifically for your baby and your baby cannot part with it.

An heirloom is really anything that has been passed down to one generation to another. The value could vary. It’s really more of a sentimental value because it’s been in the family for generations. Could be an old locket, watch, spoon, Bonet, etc. It’s really up to you. What do you feel is most important?
