Pram and car seat questions

I have some questions! What shops should we go to, to look at and try out prams? Mamas&papas and John lewis..? Any other places? Any pram recommendations? One thats suitable for newborn with a thingy to change into when they are a bit older and dont need to be laying down. I want an all rounder that is easy to fold down and put into the car, and easy to move round the shops but is hard wearing enough to take on lots of walks in woodland, parks etc Also do people like 3 in 1 prams - are the car seats good quality, safe and easy to use or is it better to get the car seat separately?

I’m a bit confused about the car seats that go into a pram. I thought they could only go in a car seat for about 30 mins at first so surely they are no use for any longer than this?

@Olivia i think its for the first 4 weeks they can only go in for 30 mins. Then up to 2 hrs at a time (but don’t quote me this is all new to me!) I have read that the car seat bit is helpful if you need to take baby out of the car when they are sleeping for a quick pop into the shops, when you don’t want to wake them. Sounds helpful in those instances but tbh I am not really keen on the 3 in 1 unless I hear lots of other good things too.

I have the icandy peach 7 and lovvvve it! We tried it out in John Lewis and bought the bundle from them that came with the cybex swivel car seat. It turns into a double so we don’t need to buy a whole new pram this time & has a built in buggy board for when our first is old enough to not need a seat xx

You should take a look at Smyths and Babys R Us as well if you have any nearby!

For woodland walks you want to make sure you have big wheels. We have the uppababy vista, can put car seat on with adapters but it is huge and heavy (or sturdy with a huge underneath storage as I see it, love it so much). Friend with dogs got Occaro and hated it so got a Phil and Teds for walks. You’re unlikely to do much off roading with a 0-6 month old anyway! Do them all, John Lewis great, Mamas and Papas might have different range. Personally would get a specific buggy branded buggy (ie. not a store brand like M&P). I would always buy car seat separately too, you don’t necessarily need one of the “travel systems”, it’s just them trying to get you to spend more on one specific brand imo. Research extended rear facing now so you don’t make expensive mistakes!

Definitely wouldn’t buy a travel system this time round. I have an 9 month old and we used it for five minutes. Get your car seat separately and one that lasts for as long as you can, we got a silver cross one that lasts till around 4 rear facing (safest) and it’s amazing. Pram wise, we got a more sturdy off roady pram we don’t mind getting muddy and then a smaller travel pram (you can do this when they’re post 6 months, most smaller lighter travel prams aren’t great for younger) We’re having our second in March and yesterday I bought the bugaboo donkey 5. It’s amazing! It can be for one baby or converted into two, if you do decide to have another close together, so worth it and wish we bought this originally. It’s also sturdy enough I’d use it for big walks and shops. Wouldn’t want to get it too muddy though but then I’d just use a good carrier! Personally wouldn’t buy the car seat that goes into a pram.. not worth it for me it’s bad for their posture and back x

Thanks guys this is really helpful. Ive booked an appointment with someone at John lewis to show us the prams as a starting point !

I’m not sure where you are based but theres a really good shop called Paul Stride in Monks Cross at York. They chat you through everything & we got our travel system from there.

@Olivia you can get reclining car seat so the seat stretches out when in the pram which is a better position for baby ☺️
