Does skipping church one day make me a terrible Christian?

Does it make me a terrible Christian if I don't want to go to church one Sunday because my toddler is behaving terribly (he bit me this morning and kicked his little brother twice), we are attempting to potty train the misbehaving toddler as well, and it isn't going great, and the infant (9 months) got shots last week and has been waking up 6-8 times a night ever since. I'm exhausted. Am I just making excuses or are these valid reasons for skipping today?

Of course not! I’d be the worst christian if that was the criteria lol. God knows it’s tough. You can do other things to create His presence. Maybe play some deep worship and praise. If your church h has online service even better. Don’t beat yourself up over this. Motherhood is hard enough x

You are absolutely not a terrible Christian at all. I skip church sometimes and I don’t even have small children and I’m not a bad Christian. God knows you very well and how much you want to be in church so don’t worry. Have a blessed Sunday x

No, according to the Bible, church isn't actually necessary, so long as you practice your faith in a similar way. There's an app called "Bible" and there's an AI you can ask questions to about Christianity and my goodness it's honestly so so great!

@Gabriella that’s not true. The Bible tells us not to forsake the gathering of the brethren and the book of Ephesians (especially ch2-4) reallly expands on the important of the gathering. That being said, skipping church isn’t a sin or wrong.

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 what's not true? Ephesians as you've quoted doesn't specifically address the act of going to church, but instead, emphasises the importance of believers coming together to build up faith. From my understanding, the Bible never once states attending church is necessary, no where in Christianity is it stated, so it isn't technically necessary so long as you practice your faith in a similar way, gathering to discuss faith/worship/teaching whether in be Bible study, family dinners to discuss faith, etc, a similar way to church where you're practicing/learning faith (again from my understanding)

@Gabriella the purpose of church, is to gather is it not? Church/Gathering is very essential to ones faith. It’s not mandatory but it still commanded that we do not forsake it but also how beneficial it is. To say it’s not necessary can be detrimental to the babes in the faith who need discipleship and to be built up.

it’s where two or three are gathered the Holy Spirit will reside. You can literally gather with your family and worship and that would be considered church in a sense. Matthew 18:20. I too struggled with this but once I got that out of my head it became easier. You shouldn’t just go to church for the sake of it also.

Valid reason for staying home. I hate missing too! But my kids need me here and I'm exhausted. Please pray for my toddler to recover from his bad cold and cough. We went to the er last night cause of his cough. And I'm gearing up for a long week with only a 5 yr old for help.

@Bethany I'll pray for you 💙

@Stephanie Gambino exactly what I'm trying to say, perhaps you worded it better than I did! 😅

@Gabriella hahah yeah I was trying to piggyback off of you. Definitely caught the gist 🥰
