I heard my baby’s heart beat at a private scan at 8 weeks. We didn’t get to hear the heartbeat until 20 week scan with the nhs x

@Naomi I do have a private scan booked for Wednesday at Window to the Womb for Fetal wellbeing and to find out gender, do you recon they’ll let me hear the heartbeat there? Xx

Absaloutly ! We had a scan with them. Was the most special and magical experience. You also can get the heartbeat recording into a soft toy. We did. We really enjoyed our experience with them x

At your first midwife appt it’ll be offered and then offered at every appt after.

@Lottie I had my first midwife appointment at 8 weeks and it wasn’t offered

With my trust they don’t use a doppler until you are over 24 weeks because it can be hard to find before that and causes more stress.

Nhs scans no longer let you hear the heartbeat if the sonographer does then you're lucky. Private scans even offer a heartbeat bear .

@Sam ours did at each scan especially in this early days but extra scans I don’t think we did xx

My midwife has just started having a listen in and I'm 37 weeks. Scans wouldn't play it. First time I heard it was a private scan. I've been told by every sonographer and every midwife I've seen that they don't routinely do it early now as baby is small and can move about more. Making it difficult to find sometimes and if they can't, it causes far more stress in mum. Although I was told this was a relatively new change so maybe some trusts still do. My midwife made an exception when I was 24 weeks because my movements had changed pattern the day before and I'd gone in for dizzy spells. I was told absolutely not at NHS Scans. They showed me the heartbeat and the blood pumping but absolutely no sound.

Didn’t hear it until I went in for reduced movements at 25 weeks, and then at my 25/26 week check in - as others have said they don’t often play it as scans (like on the films haha) as it can be harder to pick up on Dopplers and the like so can cause unnecessary worry, same as why they don’t recommend having them at home. It’ll be well worth it when you do! X

We heard it at our 16W midwife appointment and so did most people I know, but I think it differs from trust to trust and some like to do it later. But personally I’ve heard it since 16W and also every midwife appointment since

Is this a thing in the UK? I’m in California and I’ve heard it at every appointment- even the ones where I don’t get an ultrasound they still listen for the heartbeat and play it for me and my fiancé. My first one was 8 weeks. I just see a regular OB/GYN in the US. I’m curious to know where you’re from and why this is so common! It’s so helpful to hear the heartbeat!

Youll also hear baby heart beat at every midwife appointment

Oh god no that’s way too early. Your 16 week one I meant sorry.
