Please tell me it gets better…

My lb is nearly 12 weeks old and has been diagnosed with CMPA and silent reflux. It’s been 10 weeks of watching him cry through and after feeds, constantly wake up uncomfortable kicking and screaming, some days it’s just sleep cry sleep cry. He’s now on AA formula and his reflux has gotten so much worse that he chokes, throws his head back, gargles, refuses to finish and is now actually throwing up half of what he is taking. He reacts to carobel and I’m told to stay away from gaviscon as it causes constipation and he already goes days as it is. I’m not looking for a solution as I’m not sure at this point there is one. But please someone tell me it gets better 😭 Photo of my lb that will pretty much only settle when held upright which is so hard to manage at night!

Hey love, we had the same problems as you. We had to just try gaviscon!! And actually it did help. We gave half the recommended dose and weaned him off it as he got older (started AA formula at 8 weeks). He now doesn’t use gaviscon at all. It does get better I promise x

We have been through the same. Started her allergy milk yesterday but she has been on gaviscon since 3 weeks old. She is now 8 weeks. We are hoping the combination of the 2 will help her out. Sending you lots of love x

It definitely gets better after 6 weeks on the right formula. The first 6 weeks once you're on the right one is a rollercoaster of healing purging and then getting better. Sending you hugs x

Hey dear! It definitely gets better! I know how hard it is , my son went on a food strike and he lost so much weight we thought he might not survive. But now he is a healthy little boy! The game changer was giving him omeprazole !

Get him on gavsicon and ask for stool softener. Yes it does cause constipation but it helps baby’s reflux in the long run and eases the symptoms and makes baby more comfortable and at ease x

What Julia says! It helped my little one. we still using it now but we only ever use half the recommended dose per feed and she doesn’t get constipated now. I’ve only ever had to use the stool softener 4 times in 3months

We’ve had a terrible time with silent relflux I never thought it was going to end. It gets better it really does

Hey I just want to say you’re doing amazing! My boy is now 14 weeks and still struggling but I’m finally hopefully close to seeing some happiness from him! We are now on a really high dose of omeprazole which has helped a bit. My little boy is exactly the same as yours but I have seen a new boy today and I’m loving it x

IT GETS BETTER! My lb was the same age when he was diagnosed with silent reflux and CMPA. I was in tears every day and tried everything. He is now 10 months, and I’ve just watched his dad throw him up in the air whilst he uncontrollable giggles. He loves being upside down, does not chuck up and we are progressing on the milk ladder. Keep going mumma I promise it gets better xx

Thanks so much mammas. Just needed a bit of hope today as it’s been relentless. I’m so sorry that any of our families have had to go through this. It’s shouldn’t be this hard to feed your baby! I’ll give the gaviscon a go and will ask for omeprazole if that doesn’t work. Sending you all lots of love ❤️❤️❤️

@Babs it’s horrendous. I remember walking around the house in my pjs because I was trying to feed my little boy every 1hr. Waking up at night to do the same to try get milk in him, it was really dreadful, nobody will ever understand and unless they have to feed a baby with silent reflux. Gp’s can be rubbish, gavison worked for around 2-3 weeks and then as he was getting bigger it stopped being as effective we moved to omeprazole at around 4 months old, only then we got on top of it, ask for the liquid one, they don’t like to give it as it’s expensive but it’s much much better to administer and more effective than the tablets as a lot of the time the tablets don’t dissolve properly! You got this !!! Xx

It gets better!! Have you seen a cranial osteo for some body work on bubs? Makes a huge difference to gastro pain and silent reflux xxx

We ended up on omeprazole and Neocate for my lb at 13 weeks, game changer. Weaned off omeprazole at 14 months and still on Neocate and the milk ladder at 18 months. It does get better, but you need to find the best treatment for baby. There should be no discomfort! Sending you all the positive vibes! ✨

Try omeprazole. Worked wonders, however my little one did react to the lactose within the dispensable tablets. So make sure to get the liquid. It really does get better! My little one was diagnosed with CMPA @ 6 weeks & we are now 7 months. My message are always open if you need advice x

There is a Facebook group I am part of that a lot of people use Magic Mix - from what I’ve gathered it’s from a French pharmacy but is often sold out as it’s like gold dust! If you can get some it may be worth a shot. Hope something helps you and your poor little one! CMPA is horrible enough without reflux added in xx

@Sally I took his to a baby osteo and he broke out in a huge rash that night. He was inconsolable and almost took him A&E. I worried the body work triggered something and have been too scared to go back 🙈

@Charlotte I’ve heard of this! I think it’s allergen free. My lb has broken ou in another full body rash tonight and he’s been on PureAmino for a week. I’m wondering if he’s still reacting the the carobel or allergic to soy too 🫠

Hi there! I’m from the US so please excuse me if I recommend anything that isn’t offered by you. My baby went through the same issues and by far here were the biggest things that helped: • Pepcid (famotidine) also used for acid reflux. • Elecare (similar to AA formula) • finding out she had a tongue & lip tie which were huge contributors to choking & taking in a lot of air which caused gas issues + throwing up a lot. We went to a very very well reviewed pediatric dentist to get it released and did 6 weeks of oral rehab to make sure there was no reattachment. Additionally, at 6 months old, she began sitting upright on her own and that really improved her throwing up issue as did starting solids. Until 6 months I would say my god things were so rough. We had so many issues with baby girl. I sympathize with you so much & wish you patience and strength while you ride out the toughest days. It DOES get better and you will see your baby in much better mood soon! Please reach out with Qs.

It does get better !! You got this, you could ask for carobel as a thickener this helped us xx

@Babs I believe it’s extremely common for babies with CMPA to react to soya. Can’t remember the exact statistics (might be 1 in 3)

@Sasha we have our review in Monday so I think we’ll be switched to a formula without soya. LO woke in the night sounding like he was choking it was so scary 😱

@Babs sounds like his reflux is playing up try elevating his mattress slightly so it cant come back up his throat

@Babs oh wow!! That must’ve honestly been scary for you all. Glad little one is ok. If you’re ever extremely concerned, go to A&E. That is the only place we got listened too regarding our allergy and reflux xx
