Colic discomfort/constipation

My baby is 5 weeks and he’s been struggling to poo. I know it’s probably normal for them to be constipated but it’s how uncomfortable and sad he is with it. He’s straining so hard to poo and pass wind all the time and he gets really upset. Only lactulose will help but I don’t want to keep giving it to him all the time. Anyone else had similar issues and what did you do to help them?🫶🏻

My five week old also struggles, I hold her legs up in the air and do bicycle legs in the air that seems to work for us. X

My little girl was a nightmare she was prescribed lactulose I was told to give an oz of water a day dip her dummy I’m gripe water. I tried everything baths seemed to help her a lot. X

Aw glad to hear that you found something that worked! Sometimes the exercises to but most the time they don’t and he is in so much discomfort he just cries more😣x

Yes he has had lactulose yesterday and two days before that and I bath him just in warm water every night to relax his tummy a bit but I’ll try gripe water as I’ve heard about that a few times! x

I asked my HV about this and she said they’re brand new and learning to do everything, the position they have to poo in isn’t what we as adults or older children do (sat down) so it is altogether uncomfortable for them. It’s new sensations in their little bodies, with colic it tends to be at night only and it’s just continuous crying. Bicycle legs and different winding positions tummy massages and baths all helped her and it eased after 12 weeks.

I think I’ve just got to ride it out then! We’ve seen the doctor already and he just said to give lactulose which has worked but the massages and all natural things stopped working after a while. Just gonna persevere and hope he feels better🤞

I have a 4 month old now that still struggles to poop. He strains, so had he Will vomit, and it comes out his nose and mouth. I have been to several doctors, and it started when he was 3 weeks. We have done kayro,changed the formula 3 times, and took him off breastfeeding . Still no solution. I have done baby suppositories. And baby foods with fiber. He's now on goat milk and only just tried it. 2 days ago now. I feel terrible because he hurts. I do hope you Lil one gets better and that yall can figure it out.

try the tummy massages with some oil on his belly x

sometimes it’s not constipation but just struggling to get it out so tummy massages really help, newborns don’t know how to push and release, only the push part x

In the same boat, with my six week old x

@Isabella I do keep trying them, I’ll use some oil the next time and see if that’s any better! thanks x

@Maya It’s horrible isn’t it! x

@Caitlin so horrible!! We bought some probiotic drops for babies to try them out and see if they work. yesterday was the first he had them but if they start to work, I’ll let you know x
