Cervix Checks😊

Can you have your cervix checked ect at your appointments without having a stretch and sweep? I'm 38 weeks and will most likely be refusing any sort of sweep, induction ect. But will they still check to see if your dilated ect?🤭

They can check your cervix without doing a sweep yeah :)

You can, but there's no point. Cervical checks are an infection risk and don't actually tell you very much. You can be several cm dilated for weeks before giving birth, or go from 0-8cm in a matter of hours. So a cervical checks only tells you what your cervix is doing at that exact moment in time, doesn't predict how far away labour is at all.

Yes - my ob/gyn checked my cervix on Monday at 37wks. I’ve made it clear I don’t want any sweeps/inductions unless I get to 42wks

Yes, just make it extremely clear that you do not consent for a sweep. In my first pregnancy, I asked to get checked and didn’t explicitly say I didn’t want a sweep and whilst she was checking she literally said ‘and whilst I’m here I might as well sweep’ at the same time. 😢
