I had this happen today to a school tour I went to, it automatically gives off the wrong vibes to me 😅 I’m a deputy head at a primary and whilst I love getting our 6’s to help out at open days or evenings, they’re never responsible for the tours, alone or in their entirety, because they just don’t have all the answers parents need and want. I will always make time in my calendar to show prospective parents around, even if I show round 3 times as many people as places, or people that aren’t sure etc. This is a huge decision and I don’t want a 10 year old being responsible for selling our school to you 😅

The school was trying to show you that they help produce responsible, confident children. I bet they could’ve answered most of your questions too. I worry more about the safeguarding implications of year 6 children being left alone with prospective parents - there were no members of staff with you at all?

@Chloe yes it came across lazy to me. Like they didn't want to have to go into details. In all honestly I don't need to be told much about what happens above year 3 right now as its such a long way off. But for these 10 year olds that was what is fresh in their mind so the main focus of the tour.

@Christine I'm not sure they would be able to explain how they settle reception kids into school. As I found out later it is done by their birthdays. Or the transition into year 1. The boys tried there best but couldn't even remember the location of the school trip they went on last year. 'Closer than the year 4 one but between there and there'. A sweet and typical kids answer. But no adults accompanying them. And seems by no other parents seemingly following us straight behind the route of the tour was determined by the kids memory of what they had been told to do. It was 2 kids per set of parents.
