Playpen

Curious when do you set up a playpen or mat area for baby to use. I got one as a gift and I am conflicted it whether to use it since I’ve read someone refer to it as a baby jail and not sure when is best to use it.

I have it set up already and have in it all her tummy times toys

I have dogs who love my baby but are also like 60lbs so I look at it as not a baby jail but as a dog free play area while I'm cooking or just need to put her down for a minute.

I have one set up for my toddler and it comes with a zipper opening so we can choose when we want to open it. It's more or less to keep toys contained or when we need her out the way for a second. Don't let other people's judgment stop you from doing what you think is right for your baby. I currently do tummy time and other activities in it, so you can set it up whenever you want.

Right now we don't have pets or anything, just us and the new baby, so I don't have it set up, once she's older I'll set it up to keep her toys in or keep her contained if I need to do something (like bathroom) and can't watch her

It’s only a baby jail if you have your baby in there 24/7 and don’t play with them or give them attention but playpens are useful for when you need a break or if you have to get things done and you want them to be in a safe area

Our playpen also has a bassinet and changing table attachment so yes we've set it up and use it mostly for the changing table right now but it's nice to have another place I can put him down safely with two dogs and a rambunctious 5 year old in the house. My husband calls it baby jail but it's a joke, not a commentary... especially because we've never used them all that much for any of our kids. The play mat came out the first week so he could do a little tummy time here and there

my baby is 6 weeks and im about to assemble the play pen. hoping to get it ready by 8 weeks so she can start getting used to the area and be ready for when shes rolling and moving more

Thank you all! Will be giving it a try and explore how best to use it for our family.
