Stomach pains - normal or not?

Hi everyone, I’ve found out I’m pregnant quite early. Period isn’t due for another few days, but I usually do a test the week before. I was expecting it to be negative, but it’s gotten darker for the past week, and yesterday did a clear blue digital one, that confirmed 1-2 weeks. Since Monday ish, I’ve had quite bad back pain and stomach pain - I wouldn’t say cramps. Back pain has gone now. But I still have quite bad stomach pain - I just want to know if this is normal or not. It sometimes feels like how it does before you start your period and I’m constantly scared of seeing blood when I go to the toilet. If I stand for too long the pain gets worse, if I sit down it tends to get less painful, or go completely. I’ve read that this is completely normal and it’s ligaments stretching etc. But I just wanted to hear from people who have been pregnant. I’m not sure if I’m getting too much in my own head and worrying. I’ve also not done much this week so not sure if I’m feeling it more because I’m allowing myself to focus on it? Is it normal for this stage of pregnancy? Do I have anything to worry about or is this something that passes as I get further in?

Always add a couple of weeks onto the Clearblue tests. 1-2 weeks will actually be 3-5 weeks. This is because the pregnancy goes back and starts on the first day of your last period, even though you wouldn’t have conceived until a few weeks after. It’ll be normal most likely x

Yes I had period pains for most of the first trimester and it’s normal. As someone who has had a miscarriage previously I was always worried that I would find blood. I never did and I actually learnt to find the pain comforting instead of worrying as it means the baby is growing

@Bethan thank you. That’s super reassuring. It feels super scary at the moment! X

Hey there! First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy! It's totally understandable to feel worried about any pain or discomfort you're experiencing. From what you've described, it sounds like the back pain and stomach pain could be related to the ligaments stretching and your body adjusting to the changes of early pregnancy. It's quite common to feel these types of sensations as your body prepares for the journey ahead. However, it's always a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider just to be sure everything is on track. Remember, it's okay to have concerns and seek reassurance during this special time. Take care of yourself, and try to stay positive! 🤰💕

@Chloe It is such a worrying time! Especially when nobody tells you about these things that are completely normal 😂 I should have only had my 12 week scan by this point in my pregnancy but I’ve actually had 4 scans 🙈 If you ever have any reason for concern, just speak to the EPU and ask for advice or a reassurance scan. They have been great with me and it’s helped a lot!
