To hold or not to hold

So long story short, my sister in law is back from 18 months away in Thailand, I know that she is going to want to hold the babies, and I know that my partner will be upset if she doesn’t get to (she’s also not staying in the UK for long), but I’m so worried about her bringing a bug back with her. Babies are only 9 weeks old (3 weeks corrected age) and haven’t had their immunisations yet. What would you do in this situation? I obviously don’t want to upset anyone, but I need to protect the little ones

As long as she isn’t displaying any symptoms of being ill and has clean hands and doesn’t kiss them I would be ok with it. Obviously they are your babies and it is your decision so be firm ❤️

She not had her 8 week ones yet ??

Nope, they’re scheduled for Monday x

How long has she been back? I can see why you might be worried. I would probably take precautions like make sure she isn't displaying any signs of illness, she washes her hands, doesn't kiss them etc. However, I agree with the person above. If you don't feel comfortable with it, say no. Their health is more important.

@Terri she’s coming back tonight and I think my partner wants us to go over tomorrow

I think it's reasonable with anyone coming off a plane that they don't hold a small baby right away. Hopefully they'll understand that. Planes are germ fests with all people coming to breathe the same air after their different destinations

I probably would let her hold the baby but not kiss them. Assuming she’s had any necessary travel vaccinations. I have a two year old though so my little girl is constantly exposed to nursery bugs. Ultimately though you have to be comfortable and the decision you make will be right for your babies x

@Abi It's hard isn't it! Totally get your anxiety! It can only be your decision really. There will be people who would and people who wouldn't let her. Don't think you'll ever get 100% either way!
