Homeschooling?

Hi ladies! I’m wondering if anyone else is considering homeschooling in a couple of years? Would be great to have someone to chat with who is considering homeschooling also. I’m confused about a lot of things. Thanks! X

We’re thinking of homeschooling also, there’s a few Facebook groups that can help with advice if you’re confused x

My husband and I have thought about it too. Still just an idea at the moment though we'd love to x

Not homeschooling here but will be home educating!

@Elle that would be brilliant thank you! Will give you a message 🙂

@Denise I should probably research what the difference is to be honest! Our plan is to do some at home ourselves, but we would like the learning to be child-led and also for our little one to be outdoors as much as possible with plenty of exploring and fun educational days out! I tend to read more online about home schooling / ed for older children rather than of starting school age - I wish it was more spoken about!

The difference is quite subtle - homeschooling often refers to a structured approach where parents follow a set curriculum, similar to what children would receive in school. It aims to replicate a school-like environment within the home, ensuring that children meet certain educational standards. By contrast, home educating is viewed as a more flexible and personalised approach. It often involves learning through everyday activities, such as visits to museums, nature walks, or practical life skills. Home education allows the child to pursue their interests at their own pace, with parents acting as facilitators rather than traditional teachers. This method places less emphasis on formal assessments and more on fostering a love of learning through diverse experiences. Some families adopt a very relaxed or "unschooling" approach with little formal structure, others may implement a daily or weekly routine that suits the child’s pace and preferences.

There are several groups on Facebook that are really helpful to join and I agree many resources are only for those of schooling ages and up! We’re definitely going to be home educating for the foreseeable future and adapt as we go. Although home educated children are not required to take formal exams like SATs or GCSEs, many families choose to have their children take them when appropriate and we’ll likely do that! It would be lovely to connect to share ideas or simply for support if you’re keen!

Been thinking about it x

Could anyone recommend any particular links or fb groups they’ve found useful please? X
