Baby trying to poo

Anyone else’s baby spend most of their time straining to poo? He only goes every 2-3 days so there’s a big build up of straining and looking uncomfortable. Doesn’t bother him when it happens and he passes wind easily. Hoping it’s not an intolerance to the milk and just something he’ll grow out of? He’s 7 weeks.

So pooing is actually a really co-ordinated process and it can cause babies a lot of huffing and puffing to do a normal poo. This can be completely normal. If he looks happy I’d not worry too much x

He looks pretty uncomfortable and frustrated. Arches his back quite a bit while straining and goes very red. Doesn’t cry though. Just very noisy. Just feel like he spends most of his time doing it.

My girl can be like this too - I believe it’s called infant dyschesia. They get frustrated but aren’t in actual pain - just can look like it! Which isn’t nice for us to watch I completely get it, but I try to take comfort in that she’s not actually in pain just getting frustrated and impatient. Although I know what you mean it can feel like they spend a lot of their time doing it! X

My son is like this too. I think it’s infant dyschezia

I had this with my little one, doctor refused to see him, ended up calling 111 for advice. They said sterilise a Q-tip (ear bud) and put Vaseline on it and insert gently into his rectum. Safe to say it works a treat and got rid of all pain etc. I certainly felt uncomfortable doing it but there is no pain for them whilst doing it. My boy is almost 9 weeks x

@Emily this is ok as a one off but frequent use means they don’t learn to do themselves 😔 I was looking at the frieda windease things but then read up on it. Farting and pooping is something that takes time for them to learn unfortunately

@Naomi my girl has it too. It’s horrible to watch but also super common and they have to learn how to coordinate 😔

They do grow out of it around 3 months usually, try not to worry
