Opinions on cloth diapers

Hey guys! I LOVE the idea of cloth diapers while at home, however I would like the opinions of other mamas. When is a good time for that? Right away or wait until they're a little older? I will 100% be using disposables when out and about...and for the first few days of recovery. Basically looking for a direct comparison between the two before I get my hopes too high XD

I think it depends how organised a person you are - if you easily get behind on washing before kids (like me!) then they likely won’t be for you no matter how much you wish them to work for you (like me haha).

I cloth diaper at home and use disposables when out and about. I started when my girl was about 2 months. I will say it is more maintenance but definitely worth it!

I just switched over last week and I’m loving it. But I have the entire system and that can be expensive upfront. I watched a lot of videos before. You can message me if you want all the information I have.

It’s so worth it I love it I started part time but quickly switched to full time ! I thought it would be a lot cloth diapering while on the go but it’s not really any harder now that my daughters older she never poops when we are out and about so usually just pee diapers the only time I ever use a disposable is if she’s waking and feeding a lot through the night because sometimes she will leak if I don’t. Watch out because I got super addicted to buying all the super cute prints and ended up with over 100 lol

I loved them until recently when baby’s poops are too much for me suddenly. Hes 14 months now and half the time they’re solid and the other half they’re super mushy and I’m just over the poopy diapers 😭😭😭

Wow I’ve answered 3 cloth diaper posts n in the last couple days 😂 I suggest using NB disposables for the first couple weeks and when they size up, into size 1, then change over into osfm coz that’s when most babies fit into osfm anyway, after NB size. So then is a perfect time for me. And that’s what we did also- he changed over to cloth fulltime at 6w, I had to donate 6 boxes of disposables coz they rashed him up I didn’t keep any of it I was glad to donate all of it. Costed me $240 (6 packs of 6 Mama Koala $40 a pack for 36 diapers, and $50 for cloth wipes, and I made my own micro fleece liners)

On the go I just bring w me one cloth wipe shoved into every diaper (4-5 I bring) and a large wet bag. Roll up the used ones and put them in the wetbag at the bottom of the pram and take home and deal w out at home. What’s leftover from the diaper bag unused I leave in the boot as spares for next time. What’s great about cloth is NO blowouts, I didn’t change even one blowout in cloth. Love that. Huge peace of mind ESP when going out.

I did cloth diapers as soon as the meconium was gone. I also cloth while out and about it’s no different than being at home except for bringing the wet bag.

I have done cloth with both boys and loved it! I did use disposables/compostable diapers until their stumps fell off both happened around a week old then switched to using pre-folds and a cover, then after my oldest sized up I used pocket diapers from Nora's Nursery, they were ok but I ended up mainly using fitted inserts with a cover, I like these because they are simple and fast for laundry purposes which is what became really important to me. I actually use them all day including naps and just not at night until my baby starts sleeping through the night(with my eldest started around 13 months old and haven't been able to start with my youngest), but yeah I find them just as easy as disposables when out and about, all you need is the wet bag and then you just deal with it when you get home. The more you use the cloth diapers the more they are worth it if that makes sense so I'd say get used to doing it early and it'll just be a part of your routine and it'll save more $.

The best help I've had for cloth diapers is on Peanut btw so look for the groups on here if you decide to do it.

I do cloths nappies part time. I use disposibles for night time and when I go out because mine is a nightmare to get down at night if she's woken up by anything. They've contained but not saved her outfits with large poops so far (but my baby isnt overly chunky so shes still required the smallest setting despite being 6 months and there are gaps). I find them easy to use, there are different types so it depends what you're looking for. Brands like little lamb do sized reusables a bit like disposibles or you can get the ones with the poppers which last for multiple stages which mine are. I'm not sure if I will ever go full time yet. Getting anything dry at the moments been a challenge because it's so humid but also sooo wet outside.

I started cloth diapering once we ran out of the diapers given to us at the baby shower. I still use disposables overnight and out of the house. Cloth diapering is great if you keep up on the laundry. I like that I can get a more customized fit than what disposable diapers provide. Cloth diapering is becoming more popular from what I can tell. There are programs out there that loan cloth diapers out. We use The Cloth Option, but they have a waitlist. I know there are others though.

We do cloth at home and disposable at night and out. Honestly it’s been great and so much more cost efficient!

There's different styles of clothes diapers, so do a little research of what you like. I've been cloth diapering for 2 years. Using disposables when you need to is 100% the way to go. I found cloth to be very large on brand new babies, and wait until after the umbilical cord has fallen off to start. There's also some stages where they are between sizes (snaps) and there's more leaks. There's also laundry services that specialize in cloth diapers if you don't want to wash your own.
