Hi, I have contacted the schools that I wanted to see if they have any open days coming up. Booked with them already. Most of schools are starting to have the open days from now this October. I am planning to come with our child

Great thank you!

I’ve taken him to the ones so far, I’ve got one coming up that he’s not coming to. But the rest he will. I want him to be part of the search, and I want to see how he responds in the environment, how any staff interact with him etc. I’m a deputy headteacher and I always tell prospective parents to bring their little ones along!

Thanks Chloe!

50/50 - Some of the schools have asked not to bring children ( we have 6 viewings in total )

@Naomi I feel like them telling you not to bring children is a massive red flag 😬

I've taken my little girl to one so far. In fact I emailed to ask it I could take my toddler too and they welcomed the whole family to come and see. I think she will go to that school so I'm unsure whether to take her to other ones in case it confuses her but I have to put 3 choices down so feel I need to see at least the 3 local ones. They've said she'll definitely get in to first school as it's our catchment area school and in walking distance 🤷🏼‍♀️

W just attended our first one today. We took our little one with us. She was very good. Interested in everything and she liked being there.

Great thanks everyone 😃

@Nicky oh I hope it will be our case too. The one we saw today is definitely will be our first choice without even seeing the others x

@Nicky Do you think ?! Interesting. It was a private school not sure if that makes any difference to how they do things But we saw one last Saturday ( a private school too ) & my daughter came and she liked it tbf.

@Naomi Yeah, I feel that the whole point of an open morning is to give the children an opportunity to go and see and get used to the environment. I would hope that the teachers/school ethos would encourage that. Our local school does three different types of open morning. An empty school one, a normal school day one and pupil lead tours as well done by the year 6s. They encourage us to go to all of them if we want too. I think nearer the time as well they want the children to visit three times before starting and also do a home visit too for the teacher to introduce themselves to the children in their own environment. I'm not really sure if ALL of that is necessary but I think it's great that that's how they do it to help the children make this big step.xx

@Nicky that sounds like an amazing school. It’s such a big step, so great how they make you feel comfortable. Helpful to hear other people’s différent experience 🙂
