Help!! Footling breech

Found out on my 36 week growth scan that baby is footling breech… he’s been in this position for a while and i really don’t think he’s gunna change position, the guy doing the scan said everything looks fine to him and didn’t mention anything about what to do next, he sent me up to triage for a doctor to go through the report with me but i was sat there for an hour and a half before leaving my phone number with front desk for if they wanted to call, haven’t heard anything since and i did text my midwife to tell her but as usual she didn’t reply…. does this mean i’m going to have to get a c section?? please help anyone if you’ve had your baby in footling breech position for delivery???

Hey, you may get another scan in a week or 2 to check position and if baby is still footling breech, they’ll arrange a C-section

There are some things you can try to get baby to turn. I’m not sure but I’ve seen and heard about the techniques. Best to speak to the midwife and doctor (and maybe a doula?) But if baby is still in that position they will want to do a c-section. I think it’s pretty hard to deliver otherwise and can put baby at risk. One of my friends discovered during labour that her baby was footling breach and had to go have an emergency c-section, so if baby doesn’t reposition in time it might be a blessing you know in advance🙏 hope you are ok and sending you and baby best wishes for birth!❤️

Hey Eden First of all, it sounds scary and overwhelming but take a deep breath and remember the important thing is baby is healthy. I was in the same position as you and had a low risk pregnancy with no complications up until then. There’s a website with stuff on how you can encourage baby to turn - spinning babies While baby may not have been in a helpful position at the scan to rotate them it doesn’t mean they might not move in a week. They might book you in for an ECV which is best done at 37 weeks and involves an injection for you to relax muscles and prevent Braxton Hicks, then they’ll try and externally spin baby around. It does hurt but there’s around a 40% ish chance of working. If it’s your second baby the odds of it working are better. Mine was stubborn and refused to budge an inch but I took solace in being able to say I did everything I could to help them. I then spoke to the hospital as some have more training/experience of delivering breech babies

Continued ! Other teams may not feel comfortable if they think it’s not in baby’s or your best interests. Once they get bigger (40-41+ weeks) the intervention risks go up so with mine I decided if I went into spontaneous labour I’d go through with it and give it a go, but planned a cut-off date with a c-section. I ended up having the c-section 😅💁🏼‍♀️ buuuuut he’s healthy and happy.

Exact same experience as @Rosie I had two ecv’s and she was stubborn and immediately flipped back. Tried to go through with normal delivery as the hospital specialised in breech delivery but ended up with a c section

My LB turned the day of my 36 week scan so consultant was happy i could go for standard birth as said that only 1% turn back! Well guess what 2 days later he turned back breech. My options were ECV, birth him breech or c section. I didn't want to do anything to stress him so planned to go c section but he then turned back head down at 38 weeks! He did end up emergency c section but thats because he was lazy and labour didn't progress past 4 cm and hormone drip caused his heart rate to fluctuate!
