Hand, foot and mouth 😟

My baby has been to her new nursery for 2 days and has contracted hand, foot and mouth 😖 When I called the nursery to ask what their policy was on attending nursery with the illness they said that as long as she seems well in herself and doesn’t have a temperature I can still send her in! I haven’t, I’ve kept her home with me. (WFH with an unwell baby is a whole new level of stress 🥴) Has anyone else’s little one had this and if so at what point did you send them back in to nursery?

My eldest came down with it the Sunday befofe last and was covered from head to toe in blisters, but they still allowed her to attend all 5 days because she loves nursery and was eager to go and was well in herself despite the symptoms. The thing with HFM is that it's contagious a week before symptoms come out, so everyone would of been exposed to it anyway. Now at the nursery (due to the outbreak) they make the kids wash their hands before they enter the hall. If my youngest was in nursery, but had no fever and was acting normal then I'd be sending her in like normal xx

My boy had it very lightly couple of weeks ago (no temp, no ulcers), so he went to nursery as usual

Our girl went as usual, not contagious once you see blisters

My LO got HFM from his settling in session at nursery and he was pretty well in himself so I sent him. He had a few blisters and went off his food but other than that he was his usual self. You can’t really do any more harm by sending them at that stage.

@Lenka This isn’t true unfortunately. You definitely are contagious when you have blisters. The reason nurseries don’t require you to isolate is because you’re contagious prior to any symptoms so it’s already spread like wildfire so there’s little to no point in isolating.

My daughter caught it when there was an outbreak in nursery. She was very unwell and was admitted to hospital. She didn’t go in to nursery because she was too unwell. Once she was better she returned to nursery, she still had blisters at that point. She actually still had small blisters to her feet about a month later.

Thank you everyone. I’ll send her back in once she seems well in herself again x
