Child tax credit

I might be really dumb here or just incredibly overtired but I thought everyone who has a child gets this? But when I try and apply for it, it says I can only get it if I get working tax credit which I don’t? Or I’m not even sure what that is? Does anyone know how and if I can apply for this?

Are you confusing it with child benefit? Most people get that.

Hasn't child tax credit been replaced by universal credit? Child benefit is the one everyone is entitled to

I think you’re thinking of child benefit, tax credits are different

Yeah I am getting it confused with child benefit, thanks ladies I worked it out!! too tired to think straight 😂

Everyone gets child benefit. Child tax has been replaced by UC c

If it’s your first baby you can apply for the sure start maternity grant, and you’ll also get a certain amount of money a month child benefit. If you’re self employed you need to register for maternity allowance, if you’re employed and have been for like 6-1 year then you should get your statutory maternity pay. Xx

I thought everyone got the sure start grant £500 from government for first baby but that’s only if your on benefits I think as they have come back saying no on application anyone contested that? It’s so confessing all the different things am unsure of what’s what?

@Stephanie nope not everyone gets it. I’ve applied for that and wasn’t eligible because I’m no claiming any benefits! Is ridiculous really 🫠😮‍💨
