Asking for extra scan

Unless they have concerns, the NHS aren’t likely to provide another scan! I’ve got a private scan booked at 24 weeks and then going to book a 4D scan around 29/30 weeks🫶🏼 Obviously not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to afford private scans, but unfortunately the NHS won’t scan you unless there are concerns especially close to where I live🩷

NHS won’t provide you with another scan unless there’s any concerns further in. With my daughter it wasn’t high risk so I only had the two NHS ones and then had 3 private ones. This time I’ve had 3 NHS ones, another on Friday. We’ve had two private scans too. I’m high risk so will be getting scans every 2/3 weeks x

I totally understand the anxiety! I had 2 losses before my girl and now this pregnancy and also just had my 20 week scan and no need for anymore unless anything changes. What I would say and I hope this provides some reassurance, is really what is a scan providing us… they are a moment in time and can’t guarantee anything. Actually after this scan and from around 24ish weeks, the best measurement of babies health is their pattern of movement. I did have extra scans with my girl due to previous history and she had small measurements but actually they caused me more anxiety in a way. I felt more connected/reassured by feeling her move. Unless there is a concern (which causes more anxiety) then there’s not much point to them which is why the nhs only offer the 2. It’d be a nice to have more but not essential and movement will be your go to for reassurance. You could consider a private scan, maybe a 4D one around 28/30 weeks.

at 25w they’ll start measuring your bump fundal height and if there is a change in growth pattern you’ll get a scan, i was low risk but go around 4 growth scans due to change in growth x

You can always book a private fetal check scan but during this time you should feel baby moving around and kicking so that in itself will give you peace of mind. If you notice any changes in the baby's movement or haven't felt baby move they may scan you then just to check things are ok. I was worried about this but now that I can feel him kicking I know he's fine x
