Do I pay or the potential employer (parent) will pay for it?

As LO is in daycare full-time, I'm left alone at house and I want to do some part-time job as babysitter for someone. They want me to do a background check, which I don't really mind doing. Just wanted to know if I'll be the one to pay for it or if they should pay for it? Thanks in advance!!

It can go either way. I've worked places that have paid and others that require you to pay

If you work in an industry where a background check is expected (like childcare) usually you are the one paying for it.

The parent did not specify if they would pay for it, though. Can I politely ask them to pay? @Brittany Holiad

They are under no obligation to pay for it. Most childcare jobs require you to have a background check for the vulnerable sector.

Only my jobs in Toronto paid for mine. My jobs in other cities and school I had to pay for.

Unfortunately you will be the one paying for it !

They told me my main responsibilities would be more of a helper/housekeeping and parent would be taking care of baby most of the time. Is background check required for this job? @April

If they feel it's necessary to be in their home that is their perogative. And there is no obligation to pay. If you don't want to pay the $30 or whatever it is for your area then I suggest looking for a job elsewhere.
