Bottle sterilising 🍼

Is there anyone on here who is bottle feeding and using cold water sterilisation? If you are, how do you manage taking bottles out for the day? The instructions on Milton say to use the bottle immediately but that’s not always practical if you’re out and about 🤦🏻‍♀️

I haven’t had any issues. I haven’t been using bottles straight away. X

Does it? I use one and I’m sure mine says they stay sterile for 24 hours. I definitely haven’t been using mine straight away! X

I don't use mine straight away and my girls have been fine xx

Omg you’re right 🙈 I just looked at the instructions! I’ve been putting mine on the drying rack to air dry after they’ve been in the steriliser. But you’re right, what if you need to take bottles out with you? I’m just going to carry on doing what I’m doing x

I’ve used Milton with all 3 of my kids & always air dried on the rack-never had any problems x

I’ve been using the cold water method with the Milton tub (5L) and one cap of the solution - when I take a bottle out to use, the smell of the solution is soooo strong to me! It’s a really distinctive smell - almost like chlorine, is this right?! I feel like I don’t want to make a bottle with it so I have to rinse it in boiling water first..am I okay not to do that? I’m worried about making my baby ill if I use it straight from the tub!

I take them out and build them up and use within 24hrs. It’s been fine. As long as the inside of the bottle stay sterile

@Siobhan don’t rinse the bottles as then they are not sterile. Baby is fine to feed with the Milton smell.

@Sarah thank you!

I have been cold sterilising and I take the bottles and a thermos to bed with me as I combo feed and give him formula at night (to stop me falling asleep with him as breastfeeding makes me too sleepy). I have just made sure the bottles are screwed up and have a sterile lid on. Maybe you could use a zip lock bag or something when you take them out to create a barrier between ur bag and the sterile bottle?

We don't use them straight away and had no issues just make sure you assemble them straight away to stop bacteria getting inside or in the teat. Don't rinse them as this makes them unsterile xxx
