Blood testing

Soooo I’m 15 weeks and I went to my appointment and my doctor wasn’t there his nurse was and they said I needed to do blood work but my last pregnancy it was an option to do genetic testing and find out the gender but here in Dallas they’re saying I have to do it before 20 weeks but I rather not be poked again. Do think I have to?? I don’t want to know the gender and I don’t want to do genetic testing this time could it come back and bite me in the but if I decline?

You can tell them you don't want to know the gender and they'll omit it from the results posted in your chart. My last pregnancy i wasn't given the options for genetic testing but this time around I did because I just wanted to know and make sure baby was good and okay. I dont think it would hurt to do it tbh. Not sure if it would come back to bite you but I know for me it gave me peace of mind

Even if you get it, you don't need to know the gender results and it's your right to decline genetic testing if you don't want it. Usually people who choose that do so if they wouldn't terminate the pregnancy, even if the baby has a serious or life-threatening issue.

I’ve never found out the gender through any kind of blood test before

@Kristian Larger NIPT testing is the newer genetic testing that can tell you the gender of the baby before it's visible on a sonogram, so im thinking that's the testing they're asking her to do. Mine was done early also in my pregnancy

@Leslie yea it did give me a peace of mind but I just want to have faith that everything is fine and not get poked lol so it’s not just the gender. They are just making it seem like I had to.

@JL yea and that’s kinda what I’m thinking. It wouldn’t matter if there was a mutation or something I would still continue. But I wanted to make sure like that’s the only risk

@Kristian Larger in Austin they do it at 13 weeks I wanted to know so bad so I did it.
