Car seat recommendations

After some car seat recommendations please 😊 we currently have the Joie ispin birth to 1yr which I've loved but he's getting close to our growing out of it 😭 I bought this one as it was a bargain with the pushchair and carrycot as a set and when I researched the i-harbour would fit the base. Didn't realise the i-harbour only goes to about 4yrs old and I'd like to not have to buy another one in 2-3yrs time. Looking for one thats upto 12yrs, I've found one that seems too cheap to be what I'm after. I'm also more inclined to get a spin one if possible although not a necessity. Any recommendations will be much appreciated

I don’t think there’s one that lasts until 12 years old that has a good safety rating. Your best bet is to post on car seat safety uk with your child’s age, weight, gender and your budget and they can advise you.

So you won't get a spin that lasts longer than about 3-4 years as there is low maximum weight limit due to the spin mechanism and the isofix. You're best off posting in a car seat group either on here on FB with your child's age in months, weight and height, and they can recommend you a seat and tell you your local retailer so you can try it in your car before buying. The safest and longest lasting method is to buy an extended rear facing seat now that lasts until about 6 years old (depending on centiles) and then a high backed booster to use after that (these are significantly cheaper). Trying to find one seat that does it all usually means they compromise on one aspect or another.

Thanks, I've found an ickle bubba one that says it does it all but I think we're slowly realising we may have to and have a proper look in a shop or buy the one till 4yrs and then a high back one. Was just hoping to save a few pennies but I'd rather spend and keep my son safe then save and risk anything

@Laura yeah ickle bubba are minimally tested and not great. A long lasting seat doesn't have to be expensive, you can get a really good one that lasts up to 36kg for less than £200, look at the Britax Safeway M and Britax Max Safe Pro. Remember no seats are age based, they're height and weight based so you need to know your child's centiles to know how long a car seat could last. When looking in shops I'd stay away from Halfords and Smyths and similar, they have been known to give out dangerous false info and they have no specialist training from car seat manufacturers.

@Charley Smyth's was where we were going 🤦‍♀️ apart from mamas and papas there aren't many other places around us 🤦‍♀️

@Laura honestly just join a car seat group on fb to find your local retailer. They will be small independent stores that you may not have noticed or heard of, but they get expert training direct from the manufacturer, rather than just buying in stock like a chain does.
