Midwife Appt

So I've been to see the midwife today & she's told me she can feel excessive fluid around baby. Baby girl seems healthy (heart rate, etc), and my meausurement for my bump is now off the chart. Has anyone else had this? Polyhydramnios? Or a similar situation? Midwife is referring me for a growth scan. I really wanted to give birth in the birth centre that is separate from the hospital, but may not do now. Feeling slightly disheartened and obviously worried. And to top it off, it's my birthday, and I now don't feel in the mood 😒 Oh, and I'm 38+1.

Happy Birthday lovely ☺️☺️❤️ Make sure you do something nicd for yourself today to celebrate as it is the last bday being just you 😄🧸 Wait for the scan and see what they say. It might as well be all good so don't worry now. When is the scan? Even if you have more amniotic fluids you can still have birth centre birth, those are your maternity care rights Xx

@Gabi thank you sweet! Hubby has a full day planned. Bless him! I'm not sure when it is yet. If i haven't heard anything by Friday I've to give them a call. I'm hoping it's something or nothing, but we'll see. You just can't help but worry xx

Best of luck! Try not to worry until you have had the scan! I have been referred for a couple extra scans because bump was measuring small and I had to have a ctg yesterday cos my midwife was worried about the heart rate of baby being low but all came back fine, they would rather just be on the safe side 🩷 happy birthday though!! Try to enjoy yourself 🥰 I am also 38+1 btw! Xx

I had polyhydraminos and everything was fine. As long as baby is growing well, not showing signs of distress and you seem well they won’t change your birth plan. My main symptom was that when my waters broke the midwife called it a tsunami and said she’d never seen so much water in her life 😂 I wouldn’t stress about it. Wait for your scan and see. So many things can affect your fluid levels including if you just had a big drink or if baby has done a wee. Happy Birthday 🎈

Just a quick update, guys - I've just had a phone call, and I'm due in for my scan this afternoon at 4:15pm. Fingers crossed xx

Hey, I have polyhydramnios this pregnancy. Diagnosed at 38 weeks and I am 41 weeks today. They wanted to induce me at 40 weeks based on hospital guidelines which I declined. Ive had so many tests over the last few weeks and they haven’t been able to find anything else wrong with either me or the baby. I won’t lie, it has been horrible and stressful having this additional complication thrown at me at the eleventh hour. I really recommend asking lots and lots of questions if they want to change your birth plans, including asking what the actual risk is and going away and considering your options before you make a decision! Every single midwife/doctor I have seen has had a different opinion on the best strategy and what additional testing I should have. Happy birthday!

Just an update! Baby is healthy, and everything is fine! She's weighing 7lb 11oz so far. Hubby thinks I should consider a c section, and to be honest (pardon the pun), but I'm torn on what to do. Any advice would be great?! Xx

@Natalie the things that I have been weighing up are 1. How well can I cope with the uncertainty? Having a c-section would definitely minimise that 2. How important is a vaginal birth to me? 3. Am I okay with potentially being in the hospital for days with less control over what happens if I have an induction 4. What’s the impact of any decision I make on potential future pregnancies e.g. does having a c-section complicate things for the future 5. And obviously what are the risks to the baby with all the options available but the hospital will have been telling you that anyway For me personally being in control is really important (I gave birth to my daughter unmedicated purely because I don’t like being spaced out on drugs in any way) so I really don’t want an induction. I’m also leaning towards a c-section if it comes to it because of that. I would think hard about what your personal priorities are and then do whatever feels right for YOU.

Thank you @Holly I appreciate that xx
